I am trying to decide whether the new refillable mugs will be a good deal for my gang when we go down in February. Staying for six nights.

Can anyone tell me the present cost of a large coffee and a large soft drink at the POR food court?

I don't know the exact prices for sure but it might be somewhere around $2.50-2.75 for a soft drink. I think the mug is 100% worth it especially for 6 nights/7days. Figure you might fill it up at least twice a day (maybe once in the am for coffee and again when you return from the parks). That would be approx $5/day in soft drinks/coffee at your resort out of pocket. Also the mug is great for when you're by the pool.

I am a fan of mugs for a longer trip. When my sister and I went in 2009, we paid OOP for the mugs and it was perfect. Hot chocolate on rainy afternoons, refills of pop anytime we wanted and some powerade when we got dehydrated after a long day at the parks.

When DH and I went on our trip last year, we got mugs as part of DDP and once again they proved well worth it for the same reasons as above.

We would get up in the morning, stop for coffee, bring it with us to the park and drink as we waited for RD. We would grab napkins to stuff in them and put them in a nylon backpack as we did our first rides and grabbed fast passes. Then we'd find a water fountain the rinse them out and fill with water for a nice cool off at the park. On our way back to our room we'd refill them again. So if you figure in the cost of that, it's easily $5-$6/day. Maybe we wouldn't have stopped and gotten something to drink on the way back if we didn't have the mugs but we really appreciate the convenience!

Another vote for the mugs here! We get ours free with the QSDP which is even better...we save the bottled beverages we get with our meals at the resort and use the mugs with our meal. Then we keep the bottled beverages cold in our room fridge and take them to the parks or drink when we don't feel like walking back to refill our mugs.

The other option, is to have drinks delivered by Garden Grocer or someone else. We have food, snacks, breakfasts, etc delivered anyway, and get a case of water and a case of G2 as well. Its cheap and easy. For the price of a refillable mug you can get a couple cases of Gatorade. The Gatorade you can bring into the parks with you, store in your fridge, not have to worry about the top leaking, etc etc.

Well, they are not actually free- they're included in the price of the dining plan. ;)

The resorts have switched room coffee post from drip to cuisenart with pods. The coffee is quite good, now. :thumbsup2 Many of the resort gift shops sell 2 liter bottles of soda, too. I don't know abt POR, but those with Villa's do. It may be cheaper to just buy a couple of liters of soda to keep in your room.

Thanks everyone for the good advice. I think we will go with the refillable mugs.

If you are considering them also as a souvenir perfect. I stopped using mugs when the price was $7.99. I think it's just too expensive. Especially depending where you are staying (how far to fill up that mug) A mug holds 1 can of soda with ice. 12 oz. when they were $7.99 my girls were teenagers. We'd drive 3 hours from Ft Lauderdale so I always brought a cooler. The girls maybe filled their mugs 3 times a trip if that. We liked bringing our food back to the room and watch tv (didn't allow that at home). Well the girls always forgot their mugs plus they didn't want to carry them around at the parks. So when we'd get back to the room they'd just reach into the cooler. Last time we were there (March '12) we bought 12 packs of soda at Hess outside of DHS it was 2 (12 packs) for $8. So figure for the cost of 1 mug you are getting 48 refills. We aren't coffee drinkers and I can bring hot chocolate packs from home. Plus now the price depends on your length of stay. I just can't see spending the money.

We bought 3 last week

Filled 2 with coffee 6 times each, then with lemonade/ diet Coke 2 times each

The other had lemonade or root beer I think 12 times

Our kids like to use the mugs at home

So, $48 cost
28 (estimate) fills
$1.71 per fill plus the mug is ours
Not cheap but not a disaster

And you can pour your Grey Goose Slushies at Epcot into them

Not sure if this is acurate but I read a post a while back that said you won't be able to get coffee in the new RFID mugs. It said there will be seperate mugs to buy for coffee. Does anyone know if this is acurate?
