Our family is going to Orlando the last week of March- flying into MCO. We need a minivan for the 7 of us. Even with discounts, we are looking at $600+ for the week rental. Is this good? I had no clue it would cost that much.
No that is not a good price for a minivan. I try not to spend over $300 with taxes and fees. I also book almost a year in advance because I go over school vacation week. Go ahead and book the lowest price you can find, but keep checking all different sites with different codes daily and if you find something less expensive book it and cancel the other reservation.
Keep checking the travel board on this forum, they post some great deals from time to time. Also, check Mousesavers.com... they help you with how to stack contract codes and coupons.
No, not a good deal at all. You should be able to find something in the $300 range. Keep looking for better deals, some should be out there. We were once able to get a minivan for $199/wk.
You should check with the airline you are using. Sometimes depending on the airline, they offer a package deal. Add it to your airfare and you get a better deal. When I priced a minivan separate for June for a week it came up similar to your pricing. When I added it to the airfare quote it came up $331. BIG difference...check it out.
Keep checking the transportation forum and browse older threads there to try and use codes suggested. That's what I did and our minivan rental went from $650 to $312 for the week (we were there over Halloween).
I reserved one at full price (just to have and it doesn't cost anything to reserve or cancel) and then kept checking every day until I found a deal that worked and then cancelled my original reservation. I like to have "something" reserved cause that's just me and my planning quirks.
we are also looking for a mini van but the christmas holiday. i checked mouseasavers for the car rental places in the airport as thats what we like.
thrifty was $352 a week
alamo was $317 a week but for a fullsize suv
enterprise is $600 a week
avis is $600
budget is $500 for an suv that fights 7
dollar is $352 a week
hertz is $634 a week
national is $593 a week.
Put in your dates and pickup/drop off times
do not enter any discount codes
just click rates
when the car listing/prices come up there is a city special in yellow
click the check for city special
normally a better price pops up
We actually have rented 2 compact cars on one trip instead of 1 larger vehicle.
What dates are you going, someone may be able to find something and get back to you for the dates you need.
The best deal I got was at $175 for 10 days! Even the pickup agent couldn't believe it. I was able to stack and stack codes at National that resulted in that jackpot. National is one that lets you stack more than one code. And if you google National codes you will find a bunch that are valid.
Good luck and you should be able to get a better price. I was thrilled with National as it was right in the airport too!

I am going around the same time as you (third week of March) and was shocked when I started pricing out rental car rates. I was getting quotes between $600-$900 for a minivan!
I am now paying less than $300 using the following codes from Budget:
code X474200 and coupon code MUWZ023. The first is a travelocity code available to the general public. The coupon code will deduct $25 from what you owe when you return the vehicle.
If you belong to Costco, I found the best prices so far through their codes. I'm still hoping to find a full size for less than $230 in June. I agree, prices have seemed really high when I first started looking. The transportation board is really good at posting codes and finding deals.
Thanks for posting OP. We were in the same boat. Minivan over $1,000.00! After this post I played around with codes and went through National for under $400.00. And it helped us save on an upcoming Vegas tripp too!
Check the rates at the Car Care Center or a car rental place in LBV. Take DME from the airport to your hotel (if staying on property) then just one of your party take a cab to pick up the rental vehicle.
We got a much cheaper rate at the Car Care Center with a Mousesavers code doing this on one trip.
Thanks for all who have posted how to find codes for me. I found a lower price at Thrifty- $388 total for the week- Saturday to Saturday. I really wanted Alamo though because of their kiosk. I thought it would be great to avoid the lines at the car rental desk. Do any other rental car places have that kind of kiosk?
i agree with the PP about National.....actually what we did (2 weeks ago) was reserve a full size car, and then once we got there asked if they had any deals on upgrading to a minivan and they did........we ended up getting a minivan for 7 days for about 300.00
My dad rented a minivan in Nov for $550 and almost died and didn't want to tell him he overpaid. But he rented this week for less than $300 so I guess her figured it out on his own.
