Cost different between on-site and off-site?

Does anyone have a breakdown of what you would actually save by off-site vs. on-site? I've been looking at the AoA family suite vs. an off-site condo and obviously that price difference is huge. But what I'm having trouble with is by staying off-site you have to get a rental car (we wouldn't be using the off-site hotels shuttle), pay for parking, and pay for gas. Is there really a huge difference in cost once you break it all down? Or am I doing something wrong? :confused3

Here's the estimates I'm coming up with for Dec 2012:
AoA total = $4,187
Hilton DTD = $4,064

It's really hard to price out rental car this far in advance. When I'm getting quotes for next June, I'm at around $650. Obviously, I hope we can get it far below that, but even with that price I'm saving thousands over AofA. I'd have to ask how long you're going, what price you're paying for the condo, what you're using for your rental car price, how much you're figuring for parking and gas. I know we have ours priced out -- 2 weeks, 4 bedroom pool home, midsize car (I'm making my teens jam into a midsize), parking and we come out well over $2K different in prices off site vs. AofA.

I would also check the Doubletree Suites in Downtown Disney that sleep six people that have shuttles running every thirty minutes. I think in the mousesavers newsletter that get free breakfast with a code.

A two bedroom at Wyndham Bonnet Creek can be had for around $700 a week. Bonnet Creek rooms are much larger and more luxurious than AofA. Bonnet Creek also has free Internet, mini golf and hot tubs.

If you get a AofA room for $300 a night, that would be $1400 more a week than Bonnet Creek.

By having a rental car, you will be able to stock up on snacks and food that will be much cheaper than those found on Disney property.

If you want, you can eat a dinner or two off-site that will save you even more. For example, a family of four can eat the buffet at Sweet Tomatoes for $40 instead of Boma for $175. By eating a couple of meals off-site, maybe you can afford to eat that expensive Disney meal you could not afford otherwise.

Also, by having a rental car you can quickly go anywhere in the World very fast. It is super easy to eat dinner in your resort, then drive over to the Boardwalk for dessert.

Have fun!
