Oki for those not familar with the term Cosplay means Costume Play, more percisely that pretaining to dressing up as an anime character (Like Naruto, Bleach, Pokemon)

My question is:

Is cosplaying allowed in disney world?

I can already guess that anything or any character from or by disney is probably off limits since they wouldn't want you to be mistaken for a character performer or something.

But would Kingdom Hearts be off limits too?

I'm more interested in cosplaying Sakura from naruto or Hikaru from Ouran HSHC though.

So if you know if you can cosplay can someone please tell me?

Adults are not allowed to dress in costumes except for at Halloween time as far as I've heard. I'm using some of my Steampunk gear as my costume but that's about it.

I haven't seen any real far out Cosplay characters - you probably couldn't pass with those...but the more 'realistic' type anime character costumes wouldn't likely be stopped. I've seen some cosplay schoolgirl-type characters, and a few mild goth lolita outfits there before, walking around the parks. I'd imagine as long as it doesn't go into big plastic add-on horns and humps or 5-foot shoulder pads...or cross the sexy-revealing-inappropriate threshhold, it would likely be admitted.

Here's one from January 09 that was in Epcot:

Sakura or Hikaru would both probably be OK...maybe minus any pink wigs...both are fairly 'realistic' cosplay costumes and not overly revealing or inappropriate. Kingdom Hearts would likely be fine...except the Disney characters!

Lol oki, so do you think disney would make you remove a wig if it was a color like pink or lime green? I have to say I guess I've never seen anyone with a non normal hair color there before xD.

i went to Disney with bright Purple hair like Rinslet Walker from Black Cat and all the kids loved it !!!!

Ive done a lot of cosplay myself and now my daughter is into it as well. In fact we are making her a Kairi costume this week.

The rule in general is no costume inside the parks 12 and over. But basically that can be read as they dont want people especially children coming up to someone that could be a security threat or not good person. They have a liability if some guy comes in looking like Santa or Johnny Depp or anyone recognizable and turns out to not be a good person.

If you are not really recognizable as a well known mainstream character and not to over the top I can see you getting away with it . Posing for pictures with others would be a no no and if cast members saw you you could get booted out so be careful. In fact the less people knew who you were trying to be the better. I have heard they made people who showed up to MNSSHP that looked to much like actual Disney characters agree to not take pictures with others or sign autographs.

You could do a Kairi with the pink hightops and dress for instance but I would skip the keyblade. The outfit is close enough to something fairly normal that you would skate by. Ive seen it done before many times in fact. Good luck!

BTW my daughter loves Sakura as well. That one could be a lot harder to pull off in the parks I would imagine. But if you make the costume we would love to see the pictures!

Thanks lol I know from friends who have been to dinsey and tried to cosplay as KH characters that they usually had no problem getting into the park but after a while of walking around would be asked to please remove their costumes after a while.

As for Sakura I have 6 versions of her cosplay ^^

I've cosplayed Genin, chuunin, Anbu, Hokage, Akatsuki, and Casual.

First 5 versions:

I can't post links yet so you have to add Dot Com (.com) right after the word deviantart in each line

We spotted a group of about 6 Japanese young people in costumes of some kind (sorry, I know nothing about cosplay characters names!) when we were there in April. They were each in a day-glo colour from head to toe, including wigs: lime green, neon pink, orange etc. - they looked amazing and people were taking photos of them.

I can understand the no-no about dressing as a recognisable Disney character for safety reasons, but I think it's great when people dress up - these guys looked so cool, I loved it!

Not really a costume situation, but when we were at Saratoga Springs a few years back, I took the kids to the small pool for night swim about 9pm. When we got there, a few people were hanging out in the hot tub, no big deal right. They seemed to be having a good time, I think they were from Spain if I remember correctly.
Anyhoo, everyone was having a good time, when this beautiful woman decided it was time to leave the hot tub. To my embarrassment(;) yeah right), this lovely lady was bare foot......all over. I must say, I'll remember that stay for a long time. There's never a camera around when you need one. :thumbsup2
