Cosmic Rewind for the Not-So-Brave?

I was very nervous about this ride for some reason and I’m a huge coaster fan. I was very anxious in the queue to the point I almost talked myself out of it. I think I made it worse the more I read about it leading up to our trip (last week).

It was awesome. I felt fine during and after. I didn’t find it nearly as dark as people report. I could see the track which I think helped. I kept my head straight and didn’t look around at first and then once I felt I was okay, I started to look at the screens. During the banking and turns, I focused on looking ahead and not the screens so much (and I could see the track a little). It was SO smooth. I get more dizzy and sick on Astro Orbitor. FoP actually gets to me sometimes (but I still love it!).

I loved it! I think I worked myself up. We were in the middle so I’m not sure what that has to do with the lighting/darkness.

Don’t mind dips at all, don’t get scared much on rides. BUT what is an issue is anything that is going to jar necks or backs much. Last time we rode EE felt like part of it was a bit straining on the old bods and we’re now even older by 13 years. Yet I don’t think we will have much issue with Splash or even Big Thunder, overall those are not as whiplash-ing as Rockin and Space which is what we want to avoid. So this sounds fine?
Rode Guardians twice a few weeks ago and it is SO smooth. There is definitely no jerking around and I think your neck and back will be totally fine. If you can do it, I'd say ride it! It was such a fun coaster!

Thanks everyone! Not to sidetrack this thread but given what I have mentioned about us (physically fit but with grey hairs aches and pains in backs and necks) plus the fact we have not been to WDW for 13 years any comments for us on things we have never ridden because they weren’t there? Specifically have never ridden:

Remy
7Dwarves
Millenium Falcon
Slinky
Rise
FoP

We don’t get motion sick although Mission Space makes us both super sick for about 1/2 hour after so we will never do it again. Love any comments and thanks for all the help on GoTG, sounds like it is a yes for us. Whoever mentioned Dinosaur, agree that thing is the jerkiest and not for us. Anyway thank you all!

Hm.. now I'm thinking about riding this. May have to read up on how rider swap works these days if my 7 year old still hates coasters.

Seven Dwarfs at night is the best with the interior scenes being lit up and seeing the castle at its' crescendos. Plus so so smooth. Great coaster for sure. If you like Soarin' on steroids you'll love FOP. Got to do that for the first time and I see what all the hype was about. Beautiful and breathtaking and exhilarating. I really did like Rise but was slightly underwhelmed because I think I watched and read up on it too much these last few years. Visually stunning but the ride itself is just ok. But do it the stormtrooper room on the Star Destroyer is worth it alone.

Hi!

I need some brutally honest perspectives about Cosmic Rewind. I’m determined to ride it BUT I am sooo anxious about it. What do y’all think about the intensity?

Let me describe my ride style: I love Big Thunder, Test Track, and all simulators (FoP, Star Tours, etc.). I’m not a fan of drops (even the one on Pirates gets me a little). I can tolerate Space Mountain but I honestly don’t really like it. I think I don’t like not being able to see what comes next. I know that Cosmic Rewind is really dark as well but maybe the visuals (that Space Mountain doesn’t have) distract from the fact that you can’t see what’s coming? Does the speed feel more intense than Space Mountain? I’m not concerned about the spinning so much, but I’m a little concerned about the speed paired with the motion intensity. I’m worried about feeling like I want to get off but knowing that I’m stuck for a few minutes. I know how ridiculous that sounds, but I am truly a ride wimp.

I really really really want to try Cosmic Rewind but I am not brave at all. Give it to me straight.

Thank you!
It is more lit up than Space. You can sort of see where you are going but the fun for me was just looking around. It didn't make any of our family members (many are motion sickness junkies) sick - so take that for what its worth. In our opinion, it is the best ride at Disney and top 5 best rides we have EVER ridden.

I would never go back on Rockin and Space or Everest. Too rough. So you’re saying this is smoother than all those?
I've ridden GotG Cosmic Rewind 15 times and I've ridden in all the cars. It's amazingly smooth regardless of where you sit. And's smoother than all of those by far. It's not jarring at all to the neck or back. I saw a 7 month pregnant woman ride it a few days ago and she had a blast. Not saying that was advisable, but she was completely fine after riding it.

I’m curious of everyone’s opinion: what’s more intense — the backwards portion or the rest of the rollercoaster?

DH and I agree that the backwards portion isn’t all that intense - nothing like the RnR takeoff! As far as the rest, hard to say because “intense” can be hard to define.

So, not as intense of a launch as RnR? I have a young one that maybe wants to try GotG, but I know they would be terrified of a RnR type launch.

It’s a backwards launch, fast enough and with enough wind to blow your hair into your face, but it doesn’t create the pressure on your back that RnR creates on your chest. I don’t think the launch lasts as long as on RnR, either, and you don’t go directly into an upside down loop like on RnR either! And the entire ride is pretty short - just over 2 minutes, I think.

Just went in July. I like Everest....tolerate Space Mountain. I was shaking when I got off this ride. I rode it once during my trip. I will ride it again on other trips, but it was a once a trip ride for me.

Don't get me wrong....it is GREAT! It is like Space Mountain - as in you are in the dark so you don't see everything coming. You can see the track on the helix though. It is SUPER FAST. You are spinning and dropping at the same time, but still not like Great Adventure coasters which I will not even attempt to go on!

For me Everest scares me although I like it I hate the chugg chugg chugg up the hill on the outside ( I hate that!) and you have that pretty big drop out of the mountain. For me, Everest is NOTHING compared to Guardians.

Try it once....it's about 4 minutes.

Hope this helps.....

This thread is right up my street. I am bit of a wimp (Manta and Kraken are off the chart scary for me!) but can tolerate ToT, RnRC, EE but yet hate Space Mountain with a passion and avoid if at all possible. The dip on Splash turns my stomach but I love the music so still go on if the others insist. I cannot do orange in Mission Space, I once made it all the way to the door and ran away leaving my sister on her own. I can't wait to ride GG in August now I've read all the comments on here. 4 weeks tomorrow is our first Epcot day, I am so excited!

This is surprising to me because I thought I was bad at coasters but space mountain is fine.

I had ear infection issues as a teen though that are largely better and now I wonder if I should re-try some coasters.

My experience after riding Sunday is never again! Now,I'm not a roller coaster guy, never have been and will never even attempt Rock n Roller coaster or Tower of Terror because I already know my outcome but I love Seven Dwarfs, Test Track,Big Thunder, Splash mountain, kali River Rapids. Can do Star Tours and Avatar without motion sickness, Remy's and Mickey's Railway, no problem, love Soarin' and Dinosaur. Tried Everest once, never again, tried Slinky Dog twice, never again! Was looking forward to Guardians as I love the movie and seeing the reviews said no dips, no upside down so went in with no fear. As soon as it went backwards and then started spinning I had to close my eyes and then couldn't wait for it to end. Awful experience and longest 3 minutes of my life.I think for me it was sensory overload with the music, spinning, speed and did feel the dips. Will never ride it again but glad to try it to make sure. So, just a warning for those who haven't experienced it yet.

It is interesting that the FIRST time you ride, it is a bit overwhelming, at least it was to me. Sat in a middle row. I was shook but not nauseous. Weird feeling. But rode 2 more times in the next few days and each time was better and better. I am now obsessed with it. 3rd time was in very last row. It is SO fun to see what songs you get, and to sing along and sort of sway with the ride motion. Just incredible. My ride history is problems with some simulators, spinning. I also do not like Tower of Terror, the repeated up and down, ugh.

We didn't see anyone getting sick, fortunately. I have 4 more songs to experience, got Conga twice, and One Way or Another.

Did it feel like Test Track’s top speed for the duration of the ride? I’ve read that it’s 60 MPH but maybe that’s not for the entirety?

You sound very similar to me, which makes me extra nervous haha. I think I’m still gonna try it but my anxiety is off the charts!

I agree with this. The first time I rode it, I think I went in with a fear of feeling sick and having a horrible time. I walked out a little queasy but nothing I couldn’t recover from, and I’d had a blast dancing and singing along. The second and third rides were substantially better, but I also learned having a small meal in your stomach significantly helps! For reference, I am good on most things but can only sit in the front row on RNRC and feel mildly nauseas after Star Tours (which is such a disappointment because I love riding it over and over).

I was terrified of getting sick my first ride, I was so pleasantly surprised when it was over, that I was doing ok (I was wearing a patch). The music was great, so I was loving that. The 2nd ride with no fear of sickness was amazing.
