Just got done listening to the podcast show about the Military.

One thing kept driving me crazy, and it should be corrected.

NOTHING is ever taxed on a military base. Military Commissaries, Exchanges, convenience stores, restaurants, and Ticket offices are all tax free.

I have bought the Armed Forces Salute tickets several times and always on base, and there is NO TAX charged on base. This is the same reason why there is no tax when the tickets are purchased at Shades of Green, since technically, SOG is a military facility. You also don't pay sales tax in the restaurants and gift shop at SOG.

Just a little technicality that deserves to be cleared up. It is FAR easier to purchase these tickets at your base before you come down than to make the trip over to SOG and wait in that line. However, NOT all bases keep WDW tickets in stock, so they may have to be ordered in advance if your base doesn't have them.

Also, if a Spouse purchases an Armed Forces Salute ticket, the active duty servicemember does NOT have to be present for activation. The spouse is considered "equal" for these purposes. So, the active duty member OR spouse needs to be present for activation.

Thank you for the correction.

I thought that some of what was being said didn't make sense, but I haven't been involved with military stuff since I was 25 (father retired and I was no longer an Army brat). And I didn't want to make corrections and have those be incorrect and make more people confused...LOL.

I so wish that my father knew about WDW military discounts when I was a kid. My father could still use this but he prefers staying at the Yacht Club....:rotfl:.

Thanks for the info. I actually knew this, but for some reason must have gotten mixed up when doing research. Appreciate the heads up.

If there's anything we messed up on, please let me know. William and I worked hard to prepare and we definitely want to present correct information so we appreciate any feedback.

Thanks for listening!

The only other thing I think I would like to clear up is about tricare. We had to take my DD to urgent care while we were there, in order to go to urgent care you need to call tricare and get the name of the clinic you are going to. They will put in a referal for you, and then you can go. So no need to call the squadron commander, please call tricare.

Hi Shaun:

The insurance was the only thing that didn't seem right to me. And the previous poster stated the correction.

My father didn't have Tricare when he was in the military so that was new to me.

You and William did a wonderful job on your segment. You actually shared some information that I did not even know about. My father was looking into Shades of Green and wasn't sure. So the information and the video was useful.

Don't worry about mistakes. This is why the Boards are here. To help with any corrections or different information....LOL.

a good way to remember federal gov dose not have sales tax so anything they sell on federal property you wont have to pay tax on the items you buy. my mother works for the va and they have a store and they don't pay tax but anything.

There was one more thing, but I think it was Kevin or John that said it. In regards to LES, the Leave and Earning's Statement, that's just a pay stub. The "leave" part of it just means that the document shows how many days of leave you have accrued in addition to your pay for the month. You don't have to bring a letter from your commanding officer proving that you are on official leave. I don't want military people thinking they need to have an absence note to go on vacation. ;)

And the previous poster is right about Tricare. You only need to notify your Primary Care Manager within 24 hours of a visit to Urgent Care or an ER. You don't need to obtain ANY prior authorization for either, but you must call within 24 hours of the visit to obtain authorization for the visit to be covered. Oftentimes, the Active Duty member's doctor is part of his/her unit. In that case, he/she would need to call their unit commander within 24 hours of visit to ER/Urgent Care.

Last year, we went to our ITT office and bought 8 Park Hoppers with Water Parks option (my husband and son both serve). My husband bought six tickets and a month later, my son bought two of them.

We didn't even look at them when they were picked up.......our mistake. When we tried to get into the water park, we realized that two of them did not have the water park option added.

Lucky for me, I had all the receipts from the purchase and Disney bent over backwards to help straighten it all out.

My husband and I are returning this year and we are staying at the Shades of Green resort. The specials for this coming August and September are great. With him being an E-5, we get to stay a whole week for less than $500. You can't beat that price. We will also be able to buy our discounted park tickets in advance since we are staying there.

I checked the SOG website and right now, they are offering veteran discounts. All you need to do is bring your DD-214.

Shades of Green is the only place with covered parking. That is very important to those of us that will be arriving on motorcycle. It will cost us $5 a day.

I know that I keep posting about this subject, but I want people to know what I have found out in the last month.

The rooms at SOG are the BIGGEST standard rooms on property. They have specials that are going on right now that make them comparible to the Value Resorts. We normally stay at the Value Resorts but found out that we can go cheaper (as E-5) at SOG. Heck, it is a Deluxe Resort at Value Resort prices.
