In limited release in just 5 theatres Corpse bride averaged an amazing $82,000 per theatre. I just wanted to put that number into reality, that is $164,000,000... Yes, no Joke. That is One Hundred Sixty Four Million dollars in opening weekend if you take that 82,000 and multiply it by 2,000 for the number of theatres. (2,000 is infact a small amount of theatres for a movie to open to, most usually have atleast 3000 theatres in opening weekend but Corpse Bride is giong to have 2,300 this weekend if I remember correctly.) Well anyways, I was just shocked by that number, especially for a movie not even coming out in the summer. I dont really think that it'll make that much in this upcoming weekend, but if it even goes past $100,000 in its first wide opening weekend then that's going to be an amazing feat which I really dont think Chicken Little will be able to live up to.

I would like to see it, but as far as I can tell, I would need a babysitter for my DD7 and DD8.

If anyone who has seen it can post an age recommendation, that would be great!

And, now that Corpse has closed its opening weekend at $20 mil, its clear why the kind of extrapolation suggested at the top of this thread is, while fun, not meaningful.

What are you talking abuot, it made a record for animated movies released in september. and the 20 mil was actually in its second weekend, not opening weekend. Madagascar only made $40 million in its opening weekend as a summer release, I think $20 million is pretty good, especially for a release in september

Greg never said $20 million wasn't pretty good. He was just pointing out that extrapolating from a limited release of 5 theatres doesn't exactly yield accurate results. After all, a pretty good $20 million isn't quite the same as a huge $164 million.

As for it being its second weekend, that is only technically correct because it was released in 5 theatres the week before. So for everywhere but those 5 theatres, it WAS its first weekend. First weekend in wide release is probably the best way to say it.

I am curious as to what other animated films have been released in September. I know there haven't been many in recent years.

Don't take all this to mean that anyone is saying CB hasn't done well so far. Just that it isn't exactly taking the motion picture industry by storm either, as was suggested in the original post.

Good movie - not inappropriate for kids, but possibly boring. It was NOT as good as Nightmare Before Christmas

Those are pretty incongruent statements. I read your first post to say "while I don't believe the movie will make $164m, EVEN $100 million would be amazing." Sorry, I read into your statement that you thought the film had a decent shot, heck call it even an outside shot, at making $100m for the weekend. You set the stage for that assumption by stating that once it happens that you, "don't think Chicken Little will be able to live up to" it.

Really sounded like you thought Corpse Bride was going to open huge.

Well you can interpet it how you want. I was just trying to make the pot somewhat Disney related, and I still think that if it would've made 100 million in it's wide release Chicken Little wouldn't have been able to make that much. I was just multiplying the numbers together becuase that is one way to make estimates, I didn't really think it would make that much. I dont see why it matters so much

I went with Ds9 opening day, he was so excited and had been counting down to it's open....and he was bored silly....sigh...

it's beautiful, and, as an artist, I found it amazing, but a kids show it isn't...but there's nothing in it that is particularly horrible...very very tame...I'm not sure why it even got a PG...except that it's basically dealing with death...

After a 50% decline for weekend 2, looks like Corpse Bride is pacing towards a $60mill total - best case. As bad as Chicken Little looks (and boy does it look bad), it will be hard for it not to top that.
