There's a large party of about 20 of us going - we have it narrowed down to these 2 hotels. . Any Advice?? Neither of them seem to be very kid oriented, am I wrong?! But any thoughts in regards to the food, distance to the parks, service, etc?

We've stayed at both of these with our kids. CSR is very pretty, but had lots of business people roaming around. Nametags and cellphones (to me) seem to take the Disney magic out of the atmosphere. POR on the other hand I thought was a lot more kid-oriented. Mine loved the water wheel on the side of the food court, and they liked the main themed pool better.

I love both!! But the pool area and playground at Coronado are my favorites! I like their food court too. It is a beautiful resort to walk around at night.

THE PROS
No sharing bus service with other resorts
Centrally located with short rides to the parks
Largest hot tub on WDW property
Awesome main pool area with bar, snack bar, playground and kiddie pool
3 quiet pools
New shuttle service eliminates long walks to any of the villages
High speed internet service
WiFi available too
Free use of the gym
Spa
Fridge in the room
Coffeemaker in the room
Iron and ironing board
full room service menu
2 arcades
beautifully landscaped
central air, not a noisey wall unit

THE CONS
Full size beds (kings size beds are available)
one sink

IN THE MIDDLE
The Pepper Market is either a love it or hate it place. We love it but some folks just don't care for it.

Convention resort - some guests don't like seeing other guests at work. Doesn't bother us and helps keep the buses empty. GF, Cont, BW, Y & B Club are also convention resorts.

CSR has the best pool of all the mods, best transportation (not shared) and is centrally located to all the parks.

I was just at CSR with my small family (me, wife, and toddler) and we stayed in Cabana 9B. About 11 years ago my wife and I stayed at Dixie Landings (now POR) on the Fall Fantasy Plan and we were in the Alligator Bayou section. I like both of the resorts a lot and I think my wife and I agree that we like both of them better than Wilderness Lodge! Dixie Landings has their own little newspaper (which CSR doesn't seem to do) and in some ways the theming seemed more effective there. Also our car parking was closer to the room at Dixie Landings. We had a King room at CSR and a double at Dixie Landings. The bathroom setup seemed a little better at CSR but I think DxL had been updated since we stayed there.

I sort of like the convention atmosphere at CSR. Conventioneers are quieter than a lot of families, and they aren't as likely to be piling onto MK buses at 8AM. They do crowd up the food facilies at the same times (lunch hour, dinner hour). This week the Kay Jewlers Managers Convention was there and some of those folks seemed a little sleazy.

CSR is quiet close to MGM and AK, and not far from EPCOT but DxL might be closer to MK (if you take the back way in). DxL is closer to Downtown Disney if that is important to you. The food courts are different--the Pepper Market is more expensive and possibly slower than the Riverside Mill, but the food at Pepper Market is more interesting (for lunch and dinner...breakfast is not that great there).

The pool and slide at CSR is great, better than what I recall at DixL.

Can't go wrong with CSR or POR. Stayed at both with kids and will return to both with or without kids.

We've stayed at both, but we really like CSR a lot better than POR. In June, during our first stay at POR, I kept wishing that we were at CSR. POR was nice enough, and we loved Bob Jackson in the lounge, but probably won't stay there again. CSR is just so pretty, love the Pepper Market and the pool and slide. I really can't think of one negative thing about CSR. :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

We did a split stay at both of these this summer. We started at POR and ended at CSR. We loved POR so much more. The theming at CSR did not seem natural to me at all. It seemed very "plastic". I liked how there was so much more natural foliage at POR and you could walk around the resort and find lost of hidden paths. Our kids liked the pool and surrey bike path at POR better. My husband wished he would have rented the sea racer at POR instead of CSR. The boat to DTD is a nice plus also.

I stayed at POR in July and although I liked it I did not love it. Yes, the grounds were beautiful but the room had too much of a motel feel to it (including a noisy air conditioner).

Next summer I just booked a split stay at the Poly and CSR. I am hoping I like CSR better than POR because 1) there is central air (hence no noisy a/c) and 2) it has nicer amenities (in order to attract the convention crowd), such as an on-site health club and spa. Some people refer to it as a "deluxe-lite".

(BTW, I don't mind suits with cell phones. We are in the cell phone business so for us the more cell phones the better! ;) )

Good luck with your decision, either way you can't lose.
