Coronado Springs vs. Deluxe

We have been in your shoes! We have stayed at CSR twice and CBR once when a deluxe didn't fit the budget. I suggest CSR and book a business class room if possible (for both the location and the snacks!). While not as nice as a deluxe, both DH and I agree it is a much better value. DH is also much happier when we stick to our budget. Last year I went slightly over budget and my DH's complaining really put a damper on the trip.

Timely thread, I'll tag along

DH and I are headed back for a shortish trip around Leap Day.

We have stayed Deluxe (all but GF) over the past few trips but want a King bed this time. We love the Deluxe resorts but are just tired of always being in Queen beds (outside of our BWV stay)
BWI is my favorite, WL is DH's favorite.

So, a Mod it is. On our radar are CSR King Business class or POFQ King. We fly so it's only Disney transportation. It's a short trip and we'll be in the parks most of the time but we go often so we aren't open to close sorts.
We do a pretty good mix of park/resort time.

I am having a heck of a time figuring out which to book for us

The only deluxe resort we ever received a king bed was a garden view garden wing at the Contemporary!

I've looked at Mods too out of curiosity. I think I'd pick POR. I think. Good luck!

I would probably do CSR King BC. It is a more gentle step down from deluxe. Location within the resort is great and I found the continental breakfast very convenient.

I've become spoiled over the past several years by only staying in Deluxe (AKL, WL, Poly, YC - yes we do visit 1-2 times per year because, well, we're hooked on Disney!) but this year we're considering a June stay at a moderate (some budget considerations) with Coronado Springs currently being the front-runner. I have to admit, I'm somewhat clueless about the moderates and would love some insight (and maybe some encouragement) from those that have stayed at moderates and deluxes.

This will be an adults only trip, so there are no kid considerations for the resort, although we do enjoy a good pool.

Will I be disappointed with a "downgrade" to a moderate, or should I even consider it a downgrade?

Are there any other moderates that you might suggest over CSR?

TIA for any insight you can provide!

1st off.....Dont fret...CSR is A M A Z I N G !!!

For kids it's great, and for adults only it'll be even better....This IMHO is the best Mod. & in some cases better than some Deluxe/villa setups...

Truth is , If we didn't own DVC, this would be our WDW home for years to come.....

The only other Mod. that's even close in my eyes is POR. But the bus situation brings it behind...
CSR has excellent bus service...Best out of any resort, including deluxe too. It also has a great feature pool, w/ slide and the HUGE Hot tub over there....
Great food options here as well, between the Pepper Market, and the quick food options at the pool, & Cafe Rix. Then you have Ventanas, it also has a Pure hidden Gem in The MAYA Grill..

Between all this, and beautifully themed rooms, and 3 different settings you can stay in I'd say your going to have a great time for sure.

Does anyone understand why Disney charges so much more for a King Standard than just a queen standard. Is it purely because of availability? I know the values have limited King rooms, but they don't charge you extra for one.

There used to only be 1 or 2 room categories at all WDW resorts. Then they realized that there were certain views or rooms with certain amenities, like king bed, that people were requesting at a very high rate. So they figured they could make new room categories out of the highly requested rooms and then charge a premium for them. And guess what, people were more than happy to fork over more $$ for these rooms.

Deluxe stays - YC, AKL, WL, CR, soon GF
Deluxe villa stays - OKW
Moderate stays - CBR, CSR, POR
Value stays - All of the All- Stars and POP

My favorites in each category:
Deluxe AKL (for now may change)
Moderate CSR (close 2nd POR)
Value POP

You will not be disappointed in a moderate. They are better than you expect.

Our first ever trip was a a theme park view tower room at the Contemporary. While we enjoyed it, we personally didn't think the cost was worth it and we actually said we wouldn't do deluxe again. We then stayed at CSR and it was PERFECT. Especially for an adults trip (Its always just been me and the hubby). CSR has an amazing tropical theme and the rooms are very pretty. I LOVE that we can actually book a king bed room with the moderates as well. CSR has more food options than other moderates, and an awesome lounge, with a bar, small plates and tapas. We loved both Maya Grill and the Pepper Market also. It was relaxing and the pool is great too. We felt like we were back at our honeymoon in Mexico. We would stay there again in a heartbeat, but we are the kind of people that don't like to stay at the same place twice if we can help it.

We then thought we would try POP for our next trip just to see how it was, but the value was definitely not our thing. This time we are staying at AKL, but only in a standard room (we always have our own car), and only because it's barely more expensive than a moderate during the time we are going, or we would have chosen another moderate. We do not spend enough time at the resort to pay more than double when moderates are really beautifully themed. Overall I think it's good to try a moderate to see if you like it, and Coronado would definitely be somewhere I would recommend to anyone thinking about one!

POFQ is our LEAST preferred moderate. CSR is possibly my favourite. POFQ only has one small food court for dining. The POFQ pool is small and lame. There are huge giant Mardi gras heads hanging from the ceiling in the food court. UGH! The theming around the grounds is very city like and not appealing to us at all. The ONLY good thing about a stay at POFQ is the single bus stop, IMO, and that is not worth getting excited about for us. We find the conveniently placed bus stops at CSR to work just fine for us. Also we like walking around CSR in the evening. i enjoy having a fitness centre and salon at the resort. We also love the pool and hot tub at CSR. Finally, the dining options here are varied and excellent. Now that you have a business class option, this is truly a 'deluxe lite' resort! We LOVE CSR!

My background: Deluxes WL and AKL, Mods CBR and POR.

Good question. The main advantage I see to the deluxes are the interior hallways and ability to take transportation that isn't a bus. We just got back from a trip to POR and I absolutely loved the place. The room (we had a king bed room) was plenty large enough, we had a fairly short walk to the food court and the grounds were simply beautiful. Now, if the weather was bad, POR would have been at a distinct disadvantage since you have to go outside for everything....but it wasn't. My opinion, and that's all it is, is that Moderates are well worth the upgrade from a Value, but if savings are any kind of factor, I don't think the deluxes are worth the difference over a moderate.

I guess I'll throw my 2 cents in. My family has stayed at BC, BW, CR, Poly, POFQ, CBR. and POP. I will always love the deluxes for their transportation options. I wasn't a fan of POFQ. The buses were pretty bad and the theming wasn't to my taste. But to be fair the pool was closed so this might have affected my views. When we stayed at CBR we had a preferred room and I really enjoyed the stay. The theming was great (very tropical) and the buses weren't too bad. I don't think I would have been as happy if we didn't have a room close to the pool area. For our next trip in February we are booked at CSR in the business class for 3 days since I couldn't get BCV for the whole stay. I am very excited!! The theming looks wonderful and I have read that the bus service is pretty good. But it is a large resort, so for me knowing I am guaranteed a building close to everything (business class) is pretty important. Have a great trip!

I'm with you. We couldn't stand POFQ. We actually liked AoA better, and it's a value! I've never understood the love POFQ receives on these boards, but to each their own!

We too love our deluxe stays but as you can see in my signature, we go back an forth and have stayed at CSR quite a few times. It's our favorite moderate and now that they offer business class, we find it's worth every penny and don't feel like we downgrade at all by staying there. DH & I are heading back to the world for an adults only, F&W trip in October and we've booked CSR again - beautiful resort and actually much quieter than many of our deluxe stays!

Have you stayed there during F&W before? I almost stayed at CSR last year but we switched to a split stay between BC and BWI instead. We decided walking to Epcot was worth the added costs.
I'm thinking maybe we should reconsider CSR for our next F&W trip.
Especially if we like it next month. A confirmed King bed for our adult trips would be wonderful.

Yes... DH & I did a split stay this past October for F&W. We stayed at CSR the first 2 nights in business class and then moved over to the BC in a regular garden view room for another 4 nights. While we love the BC and it is the resort that feels most like "home" to us, we really enjoyed our stay at CSR as well and ended up booking it again, this time exclusively, for this year's F&W trip in October. Deciding factor this time around was price and when I looked at the price difference for this year between the two resorts, we both decided that extra $$ we'd save would be our spending money at the festival and as a bonus we'll have the lounge for both breakfast and the evening for drinks and light apps - a win, win in my book :).

I hope you enjoy your stay at CSR!

We've stayed at a mix of deluxe and moderate resorts. We often rent DVC points but when we don't, we stay moderate. We liked our stay at CSR and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. Resort was beautiful, awesome pool. Food options weren't my favorite but that's not a factor for you. The things we missed most were alternate transportation - you have to bus everywhere but luckily, we found bus service to be good. We also missed being able to walk indoors or under covered paths - CSR is/seems larger than a lot of the deluxe resorts and if it's raining, you may have to sprint to your room in the rain.
