Hi,
We are making plans for a vacation and have decided to stay in a moderate resort....I have a family of four, both of my boys will be 7 and 14 the time when we go....I'm hoping to go next christmas during the holidays....If you had to choose between Coronado Springs or POR which one would you choose???What is the difference between these two resorts??Thanks

Having stayed at both resorts this is a tough question!! We just returned from POR 3 weeks ago, and I think it is now my new favorite resort!! We have stayed at almost all Deluxe WDW properties as well as CBR and CSR... The pool at CSR is worth the stay... CSR is gorgeous, with great bus service and a few extra deluxe type amenities.. it is not quite as lush as POR. We were in AB section building 14, and it could not have been any better. Alot of it depends on your families preferences.. we took the boat to downtown from POR and like the food court area better. The grounds are more to out taste. But, I love CSR too!! don't pay heed to any bad reports on either resort.. they are both fabulous and I am super picky! Get on a couple of sites and view pictures and see which is more to your families taste... Won't go wrong with either.. if the pool is an important consideration, pick CSR, if the other things are pick POR. allearsnet.com has great pics. Eager to hear what you choose! :wizard:

We've stayed at both. kathy pretty much summed up the basics. DW & I prefer CSR. The grounds are simply beautiful. I actually liked the pool at POR better, but they're both awesome. I think the food court is better at CSR-lots of good choices. You won't go wrong either way. Definitely check out the slide shows at http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/faq_hot.htm

I've never stayed at POR, but CSR has a lake with boat rentals available. Don't know if POR offers this. It might be a deciding factor if your kids like to paddle around.

CSR is gorgeous and the Dig Site pool area is fabulous (waterslide).

I would say POR. I think your kids will enjoy the boat to DTD. They can use the pool at POR, as well as the one at POFQ with the dragon slide. Since you are going at Christmas time, you might like being able to get to DTD by boat instead of by bus.

Yes POR does rent boats: SunTracker Family Pontoon Boats, Canopy Boats, Paddle Boats, Kayaks and Canoes, according to allearsnet.com. Other activities include: Surrey/Quadricycle bicycles, Mongoose Bicycle Rentals, and cane pole fishing.

Having stayed at both, I vote for POR - no question about it! We love the Southern theme, the beautiful grounds and food court. And it's within walking distance to POFQ if you want to visit.

The one time we stayed at CSR, we just hated it. The convention atmosphere really ran counter to the Disney 'family' feeling you get at POR.

We stayed at CSR and never saw or felt any "convention" atmosphere. Several deluxes have convention facilities and I've never seen anyone complain about it. I loved CSR, I thought it was wonderfully located and the architecture is beautiful.

I haven't stayed at POR; its theme isn't to my liking. POFQ is, though. I think the theme is the most major difference among the moderate resorts, so I suggest picking the one you think looks nicest.

Have you considered POFQ? It is my favorite mod! It's a very small resort, so no matter where you are you are close to the pool, lobby, etc. It's a very nice resort. If you still want to stay at CSR or POR, I would vote POR. If you want to see some good pictures of WDW resorts www.allearsnet.com has great pictures.

We've stayed at both. You can't go wrong either way! The only determining factor for us is the shade. If it's the dead of summer, we stay at POR for the shade. Both places have awesome pools. Rooms are about the same size and setup, just different decor. The food court has more choices at CSR, although it can get more crowded if you eat when convention people are eating. Buses are easier to get on at CSR, since many staying there are in conventions during the day. Downtown Disney buses at CSR can be hard to get a seat at night time since many convention people go to Pleasure Island. At POR, there is a boat or a bus to get to DTD. Decorations are equally nice at both resorts for Christmas.

We have never stayed at POR, but have stayed at both POR-FQ and CSR. Both my husband and I prefer POR-FQ. We really did not care for CSR.

I've stayed at both and both are great for all reason's listed above. I am from the south and when I think back on my two last vacations (Nov 2003, PORS & Nov. 2004 CSR & BW) I have to admit that I enjoyed CSR more than PORS. Maybe I'm tired of the Southern feeling. I say go with the resort that appeals to you more, you really can't go wrong, they both have wonderful things about them.

We have not stayed at POR or POFQ but we have stayed the last two WDW trips at CSR. We love it! We have stayed in the Ranchos which we loved the fun theming, close proximity to CSR's awesome pool area and the Ranchos section is a little more secluded and quiet. This past trip we stayed in the Casitas which is closer to El Centro. We had the best view overlooking the lake. The rooms at CSR are nice and spacious and we have always found them to be clean and fresh. The grounds are beautiful and we always take a few walks around the resort during our visits. The food court at CSR is by far the best. We have always enjoyed our meals here.
We absolutely love CSR and recommend it to everyone!
Best of luck deciding! :)

I can give you an opinion after Christmas. We're at POP right now, but will be transferring over to Riverside Christmas Day. We spent last Thanksgiving at CSR.

I have to agree with conventions affecting your experience at CSR. We stayed there once, and wouldn't again. We were there in October, and there were several tour groups. There were times when our family was literally the only English speaking people in the Pepper Market. That was really neat at first, but by the end of our stay, the novelty was kind of wearing off. We had a hard time communicating with the servers too. Other than the PM, and the immediate area where the meetings are held, everything was great. If you eat your meals outside the resort, you would never notice the groups. On a positive note, the pool was great! We have never stayed at POR, and I wouldn't have even commented, except to say that Kelmag has a valid point. Before choosing that resort, you should know that this can occur. I'm sure the time of year would be the biggest factor, as far as the convention crowd goes. Wherever you stay, have a great trip! :)

CSR ~ newer, more deluxe like, awesome pool & slide, large hot tub, good bus service, high end food court, food offered at pool, my teen loves it there, we were there during convention and never aware of it, actually had pool to ourselves

POR ~ love the cozy atmosphere, great food court, good pool with design lending to child end and adult end, lush landscape, boat to DTD, some rooms now renovated, very family oriented, nice central location

I think you will have good time at either one, and it may get down to which one you can reserve for the time and rate you are looking for. We have tried to get in to CSR several times and it was booked but POR was open.
