Hi
We are in disneyworld at the moment until Saturday.
Having a great time but DS has developed a craving for cornbread !
We found it on the Trials End buffet and at Cape May but we have no more TS meals planned. Does any one know of any CS that do it? We are only on property no car. I know that Flame Tree BBQ used to do it but now you get coleslaw ( he's not impressed with coleslaw!)
ailing that I'm going to have to make some when we get back but I don't think it will taste as good as Trials End ( we has a great meal here 2 bowls of the Apple Charlotte desert)
thanks

POFQ do it in the food court I think it comes with chicken and ribs meal.

yes thats what immediately sprung into my mind as well. Cornbread is a southern thing and POR/FQ tend to have it on their CS offerings from time to time. :)

On another note...we always get a few boxes of it from Walmart to bring home. The boxes are excellent and its something that turns out really well. (normally I make everything from scratch but these are great quickies)

POFQ has it and so does House of Blues (and yes, you can order it to go - with it's yummy maple butter mmmmmmmmm) I love cornbread!

We loved the corn bread at the Hoop de Doo, when we got home i bought the flour from an American shop and followed the recipe but it was nowhere near the same!

The one selfridges have is a proper corn bread mix in the American section and taste just the same as the one we tried at the hoop de doo! Making me hungry thinking about it now! :hyper:

The Americans have got the cornbread mixes down to perfection..a lot of the tv chefs/cooks say just to go and buy one. I have also attempted to do my own but like you it just wasn't the same. The mixes in Walmart are so cheap and we stock up on them. We generally add a can of corn puree to it and some fresh chilli and its just fab-u-lous:)

They have the biscuit mix too that you get in the US for breakfasts! :)

I buy the jiffy mix in walmart and bring back in the suitcase - costs about 50 cents a box.

Will have to try adding chilli - DH loves fresh chillies

I make my own cornbread all the time. Have never had it in the US so have nothing to compare it to but friends say that mine tastes perfectly authentic. For those among you who add in extras, try some grated mature cheddar cheese also - delicious!

ooh...that sounds yummy, will def be adding cheese now as well:thumbsup2

I bought a corn bread mix from a Tesco Extra recently (in the World Food aisle, American section). Tasted good and it even came with a box to bake it in.

Wilma-bride - would you mind sharing your recipe as I haven't had much luck in finding one that I like so far!

This is the recipe I use when making plain cornbread - comes out quite sweet but is lovely with pork chops and cinnamon apples - or just on its own :)

Cornbread

1 ¾ cups all-purpose (plain) flour
¾ cup cornmeal
1 ¼ cups granulated sugar
1 ½ tsp salt
1 tbsp baking powder
½ cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs, beaten
1 cup milk

1. Heat oven to 375F
2. Combine flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder and salt. Add beaten eggs, along with milk and oil. Use a whisk to stir the mixture, mixing only enough to incorporate all the ingredients.
3. Pour batter into a baking pan coated with non-stick cooking spray.
4. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden. Cut into squares when cool.

If you want a more savoury cornbread, cut down on the sugar and add some grated mature cheddar. You can also, as others have suggested, add some chopped chillies.

I believe TE has a walk up service. Why not inquire and see if you can get a side of corn bread.

Just looked at the menu for House Of Blues at DTD and the first thing listed is Cornbread with maple butter! I am sure you can just order just the cornbread to go.

Thank you all for your replies . Always impressed with the dis, one day later 3 places to get it, one recipe and i'll definitely try a big Tescos for the kit
We didn't get any today today as we are having a 'magic kingdom eat only sweet things day'! Beignets and dole whip for late breakfast, caramel apple and red velvet cake pop for lunch from the sweet shop at the top of Main Street and the desert party tonight!
Tomorrow might have to be a salad day!
