Corkage fee and screw top wine

....its ridiculious we get scotch cheaper EVERWHERE else in the world compared to Scotland because our taxes are so high,so sorry cant compare to usa.

As a rule, I've found the single malt prices to be better in the USA than in Scotland, or even in the duty free shops! I picked up a couple of bottles of single malt when I was in Scotland last summer but only because they were bottles I couldn't find easily in the USA.

Actually, if you have them 'open' a bottle at dinner and you don't finish it, they will store it for you and bring it back out the next night. So you'd only need to take it with you if you planned on finishing it that night in your room.

Now, some of us have experienced opening several bottles of wine during dinner and the assistant server did not charge a fee for each bottle, but technically they could have.

Unfortunately for us, the asst server charged us for EACH bottle, so I'd say be prepared for the possibility. :sad1:

I posted this same question to Disney's Mom's website, and the response was if you bring an open bottle to dinner, they will not charge the corkage fee. Can anyone verify this?

I haven't heard of this before, but keep in mind, as has been mentioned, the corkage fee covers MORE than opening, but it's also wine SERVICE as well --

ie providing wine glasses, keeping them filled, keeping wine chilled (if necessary), so I would not bank on no fee because it's uncorked...or uncapped...lol

The thread you reference did mention it was for service as well, so maybe you could ask to serve it to yourselves...I dunno sounds awkward to me. :confused3

That's assuming the Mom's Panel always gives correct information...which they don't.

The Macallan 18 is very good I can confirm and that price is not all that bad.

Now the 25 is now on my list if bottle looks fresh.

Hi all.
My DH doesn't drink. I would enjoy a glass of wine with dinner, or maybe one at a bar. No way I could plow through a bottle myself. Three bottles over the course of the 7-night would be a big party for me alone and dh would probably have to roll me off the ship.
What is the cost of a single glass? I'm thinking that is going to be the best deal for me. Do they do carafes with 2 glasses? Or do you think one bottle that they store for me for 3 nights???

If you are going to have 3 glasses of wine or more, then purchasing a bottle is the best way to go. A $15 bottle will cost you $45 on DCL with the fees. It's still nice to be served wine at dinner and your assistant server will take care of everything for you.

Our 4 night cruise Oct 10th, the first night we purchased a bottle and then the next night I purchased the 3 night package because it was cheaper than purchasing single bottles and you only have to buy the package size for how many nights are left. 1 fee for the entire package so our bottles cost around $35 each package price.

Does anyone know if the automatic gratuity goes to the assistant server or is it shared?

All bar gratuties (which include alcohol sold in the dining rooms) are shared. At least that's what I've been told, once from an assistant server and once from a bar server.

Nope, no carafes. And single glasses start at around $6-$7...and UP!!

Best bet is to get the bottle. The cost of a single glass of wine is the equivalent of one fourth the cost of a bottle, in most cases -- most DCL bartenders will tell you that if you purchase a bottle, you get one extra glass free. As others have mentioned, your servers will cap the bottle and bring it to dinner each night. :goodvibes
