Cork screws allowed

This is our first cruise and I am curious to know what is allowed on board regarding cork screws and swiss army knives. Some posts and information make it sound like neither would be acceptable -- others seem to suggest they are OK, but that may be outdated advice. Can anyone clarify?

I have read posts about people with swiss army knives, having them confiscated, and they were able to pick them up when they were getting off..

We had a corkscrew last year, and there was no problem with that..

HTH :cool1:

Don't put it in your carry on.....it won't make the plane ride......

My husband's Leatherman tool was confiscated out of our checked luggage on our Wonder Cruise. We got a note that they had taken it out at the port, and a claim to pick it up when we returned to the port. Because it was in our checked luggage, the airlines didn't have a problem with it, but apparently it is a "no no" for the Disney Cruise line.

By the way...

The best souvenir from the ship is the DCL corkscrew. We brought our own wine, and had room service deliver a corkscrew and two glasses. Only cost was the tip to the server.

And from the TSA Website, corkscrews are allowed in Carry on luggage.
TSA list of Prohibited / Allowed Items

Call the cruiseline.
They can answer any questions you may have, since alot of things change frequently.

Have fun

Bon Voyage!!! :goodvibes

No point risking either. I got stopped at the airport with a nail file. Besides, why would you want to bring them: Disney have both knives and bottle-openers. Travel light is best policy.Have fun. Nat :Pinkbounc

They didn't charge you for the corkscrew? I would have thought that if it wasn't returned when the dishes were picked up that it would have probably been added to your bill.

I have only been on one other cruise (4 day Wonder in 2002) but I know that at hotels, if anything they have brought to your room isn't accounted for then it is added to your bill.

Now I'm confused. I've read somewhere on these boards to make sure you have a good lock for your luggage...how did they go thru your luggage at port without you there? I am planning on bringing a corkscrew and am driving in, so I don't need to worry about the airlines, but should I lock my luggage or not?
Thanks:confused3

We packed a corkscrew in our luggage and had no problems. However, I would, as another posted suggested, call DCL. This could have easily been an oversight. :confused3 My husabnd took a flight just one month later and that same corkscrew was left in one of our suitcases and he was stopped as he went through security. :rolleyes1

Disney x-rays all it's luggage. (When we went two years ago, it was the only cruise line that routinely did this.) If they have concerns about an item, they will open your luggage and remove it.

Thanks for all the great info. It never occurred to me to ask room service for wine glasses or a corkscrew.

Also, I have read that DCL will confiscate anything from your checked bags that they believe it unsafe and it could delay your luggage making it to your stateroom. They will return the items at the end of the cruise.

We always carry a corkscrew in our checked luggage. You just never know when you might run into a good bottle of wine that needs opening. :goodvibes We started doing this after our second visit to WDW when we purchased a bottle of wine at Epcot in France to take back to our room and they would not sell us a corkscrew to go with it. Told us it was "Florida law" or something. Anyway, DSister, who is a bartender, was with us and she was able to open it without the corkscrew  , but we learned our lesson and bought a couple of travel corkscrews and always take one with us.

I just got back from the 3/12 Western and took a cork screw in my checked baggage and had no problem at the airport nor the Disney terminal. I also took 2 large bottles of wine in a carry on cooler and had to problems.

I took the bottles to dinner and then followed us all week. It was very nice.
