Corian v. laminate countertops

We are totally gutting and remodeling our kitchen and I will finally have some cabinets and countertops Yeah! Now the dilemma.....corian or laminate. I was recently at a friend's house who had corian countertops and I fell in love with them. After seeing them, laminate just isn't cutting the mustard. The downside is it's more than twice as expensive. Anyone else have either laminate or corian and can you give me some pros and cons? Is the extra expense justifiable?

As an aside, Home Depot currently has a special on 20% off certain colors on the Corian so that helps a little

I don't have any details, but I've been planning my kitchen for oh about 13 years, like since we moved in. Anyway, back to the subject.
I would put corian in if you can afford it. The laminates are fine, they're cheap, but they'll do.
And later on you can replace it if you want. With corian, you'd better make sure you really like what you pick out. LOL

I have the laminate countertops and would love the Corian but for the cost.
So I compromised. I ordered a six-foot slab of Corian and had it cut into two pieces of 2x3 feet. They rounded off the corners for me and I use one slab next to the sink and the other is on the island counter. This is where I do all my cutting, fixing sandwiches. making breakfast etc. etc. Kind of like having your cake and eating it, too.

We cut corners elsewhere just so we could get Corian!!!

And I highly reccommend Corian over other solid surface. We have had ours for about 6 years and it still looks new.

Would not go back to laminate again. Good Luck!!!

I can feel your pain. We remodled this past spring and I so wanted the corian counters with a recessed sink.

Well, it was 3 times as expensife. I got laminate in a great mottled green color that I love. The best thing I got was a composite sink. It is very similar to corian but made by I believe Franke or a division of that company. I got it a Lowes for about $200. Double sink in very, very dark grey. Nearly black. I absolutely love it. No scrubbing. I just squirt some dish liquid and swish around the dish cloth to clean it. It always looks perfect.

We don't plan to be in this house forever. Maybe 10 years at most so putting in something that expensive didn't make sense. We may even be here less than half that long, who knows.

I would use a quartz product like Silestone. It is much more durable than either of the others and looks like granit without the cost and maintenance issues. Corian has problems with staining that quartz products don't. We were going to use granit in our new house, but decided on Silestone after MUCH research.

We are in the design stage of a kitchen remod. We told the designer to go with corian. Our other choice was granite. We go next Monday night to see the first drawing.

I was gonna do solid surface when we redid the kitchen 2 years ago... But the cost was just to much at the time. I will get them sooner or later. Or Granite... I like that look as well.
