I really want to eat there on our vacation. The one thing that worries me is the portion size. DFi doesnt really want to eat there but I do and it looks really nice. I think dd would enjoy the tanks and the diver.(gonna try and get one)

We are the basic ddp -What exactly comes with the meal? we would order the new york steak dinner, potato and veggies. Does it come with bread? A salad would be seperate OOP right?
soft drinks and dessert. I'm wondering if the portions will be big enough or satisfying for Dfi .
I keep getting a visual of the creditcard commercial where two go on a date and eat at a fancy resturant and the server brings out the meals with tiny portions. After dinner the couple is seen at the convinence store buying all kinds of junk food - get it they were still really hungry because the food was so small-lol!

what do u think-we r 1st timers going to wdw???????????

I know "elf food" right. LOL. I have the same worries with my DH because he is a big eater, too. I am planning this restaurant for our 20th next year and will be wanting to hear other's opinions. I will say that the kids and I ate at Le Cellier in December and while it was very, very good I know that the small piece of steak wouldn't have filled up DH.

Portions in Disney are typically large but The Coral Reef stands out in my mind as having smaller portions. I wouldn't worry about it too much you can always suppliment with an appetizer and with your snack credits and in the World Showcase there are many other opportunities for him to snack after dinner if he still wants a little more.

No app's and no tip. Not sure about the bread sorry I forget . Ate there last August. Food portion is good not like that comnmerical :lmao:. I know what you mean. I think there are portion controlling all over. I went to Apple Bee's the other day my steak was so small alot smaller than the use to serve.
I think you will be fine anywhere you eat in Disney. We are never hungry after we eat. Hae a nice trip :thumbsup2

We have never walked out the Coral Reef hungry. I generally never ate much of the app that used to come with the DP because I wanted dessert. My DH is a big eater and never said he was hungry after CR.

I am Like your DFI,and will be going to Coral Reef for the first time, for our last day, early lunch before we catch the plane, this was the only day that I could get the diver along with the special menu,I have gone in expecting it to be a light lunch, and if I am hungry later on,I'll just get a snack or something, this one is for the atmosphere 1st,diver 2nd and food 3rd,but in any case if you are on the dinning plan I would say eat here for lunch, and for dinner get a bigger meal for dinner using a counter service like at Cosmic Rays ribs and chicken,Tangerine Cafe Shwarrma Platter, Flame Tree,or Sunshine Seasons,or just use another TS credit that night for dinner like Ohana he will get full there, and then one day just use 2 CS credits,God Luck, here is a link to some pics of different restaurants hope this helps.

Bread is placed on your table at the Coral Reef without being ordered (as of July 2008). Beyond that, if it says fish with rice, you get fish with rice and maybe a sprig of something green--not a salad. Steak with potato is just that. You get the picture.

That said, no one at our table left hungry. In most cases, portions at all restaurants were more than we could eat. We have one who is a big eater and one rather small...occasionally some sharing took place, but everyone went away happy. In one restaurant, the server even offered to wrap up some bread for DD to take home. Made her a happy camper!

The new york stip is 14 oz i believe...pretty good size cut. If you look at some of the pics the portions do appear small...I was thinking the same thing before we actually ate here. Turns out they serve everything on such huge charger plates that of course everything looks small...your dish is like 14 inches in diameter!

My dh once packed down a 24oz porterhouse. He ate the strip steak here and had no complaints.

I got the steak back in February. (Bread was delivered as our drinks were delivered.) When I first got my plate, I thought it looked a little disappointing in the veggie department. However, I was mistaken. I'm a Pooh-sized gal who loves steak and potatoes. Let's just say when I left I was a very stuffed and happy Pooh-sized gal.
