Please tell me your good/bad reviews on Coral Reef...

We are thinking of making this one of our dinner choices and would like to know what you all think??

:goodvibes Thanks!

We were there on September 15th for dinner. My boys loved the tank and the fish kept them somewhat occupied, but overall the food was a disappointment for us. Everything was okay, but nothing was exceptional. It was fun to try, but I think next time we'll go someplace else.

Dh and I were there for late dinner last Sunday the 23rd. It was our first time eating there. we were seated in the upper tier right near the entrance. I couldn't see the fish or even the tank. Our waitress was a little harried. She asked us our appy, dinner and dessert order all at once. The food was good and we did get personalized menus and a special little chocolate banner that said "Best Wishes" since it was our anniversary. Not the best experience but we were on the free DDP so not bad. I would go back and hope to sit closer to the tank. Also it was very noisy.

We've had one really outstanding meal there, and one that was just okay.
Our first time we were seated right at the tank, the kids loved it! The food was very good, very fresh, just great! Service was wonderful!!!
We ate there again a couple of weeks ago. We were there for lunch this time and were seated on the 2nd tier. The kids did complained they couldn't see anything in the tank, although I thought the view was great! The food was lacking, a lot. I had the mahi mahi and it just tasted bland, like no seasonings or anything were used at all. The kids thought the food was okay. One had pizza and ate it all, the other had macaroni and ate none of it. I felt we were being ignored, but rushed if that makes sense by our server.
While I hate the thought of not returning, the 2nd time really did ruin it for me.

We had lunch there on 9/13 (9 of us) and I ahve to say it exceeded my expectations. Everyone had a great meal and we were seated with a great view of the tank on the bottom tier. One of my DB had the blackened catfish and it was yummy! The portion was not large however, and he was still hungry.

We did not order appys but we did split some desserts for the tables. I would go again though, I had the porkchop and it was very filling.

We were also there on the 13/9 we had a great meal. Everyone apart from DS2 loved their food. The only bit I didn't like was the chocolate wave it was a bit sickly. We were seated right by the tank and the boys loved the fish swimming beside them.

Our most recent trip there was 9/20. We sat in the second tier which had a perfect view of the tank and dd could see everything. I had the king crab legs and they were wonderful. DH had the prime rib (I think that's what it was) and said it was great. DD had mac & cheese and french fries and the build your own sundae. DH and I had the chocolate wave which was very good.

The food would get an A, the service a D-. Our waiter was awful and it was the one time I wish the tip wasn't automatically added. He had zero personality and he took forever. We weren't in a hurry but we waited over 25 minutes just to give drink orders. It's probably a good thing he took our entire order at once or we'd probably still be there.

We've in general had good service and good food here so we will return.

We ate there last week. Overall we had a great experience. We sat down in the lower section, and had a great view of the fish tank. It was a later ressie, so the restaurant wasn't too crowded.

For an app, I had shrimp cocktail-- the sauce had a diff. flavor that what I'm used to, but was still good. DH had the land & sea app -- he enjoyed it. It came w/ an interesting cucumber salad. For an entree I had the prime rib -- it was cooked the way I like it, but just a little too salty. DH had the King crab legs and said they were good. For dessert DH had the Baileys & Jack Daniels Mousse -- it was yummy. I think I shared some fruit w/ DS. Also, DS5 tried a bowl of the lobster soup -- he really enjoyed it.
Our waitress was great. Her name was Sally Joe. She was very attentive to the kids. My son had just gotten into pin trading & so asked her to trade with him. Well he couldnt make up his mind on which one to trade, so she ended up just giving him one w/o having to trade. He was thrilled!!
Also, the diver was walking around talking with some of the tables, and she made sure to have him come over to talk with us. He sat down at our table, and answered all our questions about the different fsh & diving. It was a nice ending to a great meal.
And overall our children were the best behaved they had been since we had gotten there-- so of course that put mommy & daddy in a great mood too!!
I'll give it a thumbs up!! :thumbsup2

We ate at coral Reef on 9/3 and it was wonderful just like last year. We had a table on the 2nd tier and the kids were a bit disappointed that we didn't get right by the tank as we did last Sept. But i felt we still had a great view. Our server was not very friendly, but the food gets an A+. DH had catfish, I had salmon, DD had the NY strip, DS had Shrimp pasta, DS had grilled chicken, and DS, DD had grilled chicken from kids menu. Everyone loved their meals but we 4:30 ADR and the kids were not very hungry. I made sure I did not eat lunch so I would be hungry! Our server tried to get us to order app, entree and desert all at once but with 5 kids it is a bit difficult to get all of them to decide what they want! We did not realize she would ask us for our dessert order and did not look at that part of the menu and when she was taking our order she would not give us time to look and decide what we wanted. Well now I know to order dessert at the beginning! After our meal we ordered our dessert and it took 25 minutes! It is not fun waiting for dessert with 5 kids who want to get back in the park! When we asked our server about this, her response was "that is why I wanted you to order your dessert with your app and entree, but you weren't ready" in a snippy tone!
We will definitely go back next year and hopefully we will get a nicer server!

Can you request a table by the tank if you are willing to wait for it?

Susan

Coral Reef was my favorite restaurant until we ate there this past 8/31. To start, we had an hour and 20 minute wait to be seated. The only reason we were even seated at that point is because I went to the podium upset and questioned the wait (there were 10 of us). They said they could seat us at different parts of the restaurant and then after awhile finally came up with 2 tables together. At this point, DH left since he had it with waiting and looked at the menu which changed from last year and there was nothing that he wanted. He ate CS in Mexico. Things did not start out good. Once seated, we noticed there were numerous tables that were empty but had never been cleared. There was a table across from us that took at least 20 minutes before it was ever cleared. We were in the 3rd tier and could not see the aquarium at all. The kids menu also changed and is horrible. I have 4 kids and 2 are under 10. After studying the menu, I said they are not ordering off the kids menu and will share mine and my other 2 kids dinners. That is how bad the menu was. I ordered the shrimp cocktail as an appetizer which was just ok, again changed from last year. I also ordered the steak which was good. DS12 ordered a pasta in some type of cream sauce which he did not like. I switched with him and his was really horrible! I had the chocolate wave cake for dessert which was AWESOME! Our waiters name was 'Bong' and was nice but frazzled. We had six kids at our table between the ages of 5 and 16 who waited patiently for refills on drinks. Once Bong finally came back to our table all 6 kids ordered drinks which completely confused our waiter. He half jokingly said they should go refill them themselves. The whole situation was pretty funny and after this drink situation I was crying since I was laughing so hard that the dinner was such a disaster. Needless to say, Coral Reef is no longer my favorite restaurant and I don't think I will ever return.
