We ate at Coral Reef last night against my better judgement. It's been two years since we've eaten there but the kids asked for it and we had two Epcot nights, so ..
And the crazy thing is, I really enjoyed the Shrimp and Grits. I thought it was very flavorful and good. DH liked the Mahi-Mahi. There was a problem with DD8's meal but that was mostly on us for an ordering mistake and the server went out of her way to make it right.
We even noticed (and our server pointed out) that there are a lot more fish in the tank.
Could CR be upping their game?
It's always been my favorite dining dining plan eatery, actually. I judge the restaurant by the overall experience I have, not just the food, but the service, the ambiance, and the overall pixie dust I get while I'm there. Many things, not just the food, which is important, don't get me wrong, but it's not the only thing.
But I have always enjoyed the food. For me, it's very good, commercialized seafood, and way better than like, Red Lobster, but no, it's not 5 star, probably not 4 star? But I have had dishes I loved, and would probably give it 4 stars or at least 3 and a half for food quality. But everything else pushes the overall experience to make me giddy and happy when I eat there. And that includes the cocktails, actually! And of course the incredible atmoshere and it's usually pretty quiet in there, believe it or not, like even some of the fancier signatures are way noisier, so if you appreciate a more tranquil experience to go with watching those beautiful fish and soaking in all that blue light and decor, this fits the bill.
The mahi-mahi I often get has never been anything less than terrific, and I have always loved the grilled octopus appetizer, too, and enjoyed the lobster bisque as well.
