Coral Reef Smell?

This is kind of an odd question, but...

my mom and I looked into the restaurant years ago and she remembers that it had a very fishy smell.. in her opinion it flat out stank worse than other fish and seafood restaurants. She thought it could be because of the aquarium. I don't really remember it very well, and neither of us has ever eaten there. I'm now in charge of planning a WDW vacation and was thinking of going there. So, long story short... how bad is it? Is it overly noticeable, or does the smell go away after a few minutes? Or is it not there at all?

You might want to check it out before you make a reservation.You might ask if you could see inside and smell the area around.

On the other hand, I don't see how the aquarium could 'scent' the restaurant. There are no openings, vents, whatever, from the tank into the restaurant.

We, also, have never dined there, & are considering making an ADR (my 180 days is at the end of this month) there.

I have wondered the same thing.
I am not a fish eater (have never & won't even try it) but the rest of my family would like to go there for some seafood. I can't stand any "fishy smell".

I'll be interested to check back to this thread later tonight.

One of our DS hates fish and the associated smell; he's our resident picky eater. In our two trips to CR he's never voiced a complaint, and I've never noticed any smell, other than your typical restaurant scents.

No fishy smell whatsoever. During the Food & Wine Festival, they hold wine tastings and pairings there. They couldn't have wine merchants and experts tasting wine in a location with a funny odor.

Thanks for all the feedback! I think I'll go ahead and try it out. It looks gorgeous in there. What she remembers was from around 8 years ago, and her guess was the aquarium, but obviously that was an uneducated guess. Maybe we just happened to go by on an off night. I suppose the worst case scenario would be we cancel our ADRs once we can check it out in person, but it sounds like we won't have any problems at all.

Think it depends on the individual. I like Pezalicious mother noticed a strong smell in there. I cant eat in resturants that smell of fish (used to make me sick now not as bad but still turns my stomach). I have been as far as the entrance to the resturant and that smelt so gave up having food there. It just depends on how sensetive you are to smells. Clearly I must be very as not that many people have said they smell it.

I'm going to give it some thought. Maybe I won't make an ADR this trip, & we'll just pop into the entrance during a visit to Epcot. If the smell does NOT bother me...I'll make an ADR for a future trip. Thanks!

Yeah sounds like it might be an idea. You could always try for a walk up if the smell wasnt too bad.

Personally some of the stuff on the menu sounded so nice but that smell really made me feel iffy

I have been to CR on all our last three trips and never smelled anything fishy. I have such a good sense of smell it drives DH and DS a bit crazy because they never smell what I smell. That being said I am not sensetive in the sense that I will let a smell really bother me or effect me negatively. Then again if it smells bad I mouth breath so that might be the key. Maybe if you just make the reservation and it is that bad you could cancel it before getting seated. It really is a beautiful restaurant and not to be missed but then again since you have already been there maybe just try something new since there are so many wonderful restaurants in Epcot.

Pezalicious-just want to say thanks for posting the question. Although we love a good Wisconsin fish fry, we don't eat any other kind of seafood. I've always wanted to try this place--the NY Strip gets lots of raves on this board--but was always worried about a strong odor that I know would bother me. I'm encouraged to give it a try in April!
