Coral Reef Seating Question

Anyone know approximately how long the wait could be if we want a table next to the tank? My 4-year-old son has Sensory Processing Dysfunction and is very impulsive, which can be difficult in certain settings. I have a feeling he might want to keep going up to the tank and I know people sitting there will not be pleased with this if he gets obsessed over it. I'd love to be able to request a tank-side table to keep him (and our fellow diners) happy (and keep him where he is supposed to be!)

This is his actual birthday dinner and our ADR is for 6:30 - I realize now I should've probably chosen a less busy time, but oh well...

Would it be advisable to check with the hostess maybe an hour before our reservation time and see if they can somehow prepare for our special request??? I realize this is probably a strange situation, but I'd imagine a lot of people would want one of those tables as well.

I think it would be difficult to give you an estimate of how long it would take to get a tank side table because there are many factors in play that would affect your wait time. I think your idea to check in about an hour early and explain your situation is a very good one. I think your request is a very reasonable one, and I don't see any reason why they would not do their best to accomedate you. Good luck and have a wonderful trip!

How about contacting dining and ask them to append a note to the reservation "Child's Birthday Dinner - Request Table at Tank". Yes, it is only a request but it will show up on the restaurants computer. It cannot hurt.

I'm sure if you explain your situation, they'd be understanding... You probably have to wait a little longer for one of those tables to open up.

Remember the tables next to the glass are only 4 person tables (or 2 two-person tables when they split them). If you group is more than 4 then it won't happen unless you split up. Whenever we go as a group of 2, we always get the glass and when we've gone as more than two (more than 4) we never get the glass. So if your party is more than 4, not only will you be waiting for a table by the glass to open, but may be waiting for more than one table by the glass to open. Hopefully the OP is 4 or less which would increase your chances.

Just a thought, which may not be an option at this point, but anyway... We ate lunch there 3 times last year and our ADR was for right when they open at 12 Noon for lunch. We had our pick of tables since we were one of the first groups of the day. So if it's that important to eat there and be by the glass, I'd consider doing what we did.

We couldn't sit right by the glass because we are more than 4 people, but we were in one of the booths which are the next row out.

I, too, believe in waiting for the table you really want. You pay the same price for the food, so you deserve to have exactly what you want (especially on your ds's birthday!). If standing around waiting is an issue for him (and when isn't it an issue with 4 yo's?), you could always send one parent to check in at the podium, while the other stayed with ds outside the restaurant. When the tankside table is available, have the "inside" person call the "outside" person on your cell phones, and bring him in.

Thanks everyone! I didn't even realize they could put notes on the ADRs... I will call and see if they can add the note and I'll also try to check in about an hour early to see if they can help us out with our request. It will just be me, my son, and my mom, so it looks like we'll fit just fine. Anyone know how many of these tables there are?
