DH and I will be in the world during the first week of October. I've already made our ADRs but now am considering replacing our Rose and Crown night with a dinner at Coral Reef. We're a couple in our 40s visiting WDW without the kids and we'll be on the Dining Plan. A couple of questions:

What is the usual latest seating for dinner at the Coral Reef?

How's the atmosphere? We both love kids but on this trip we'd like to relax and avoid a Chef Mickey's type environment.

Thanks!

We just ate there last week for our Anniversary and it was a nice restaurant. We used the dining plan and had a great time. Food is tastey, service was excellent. It is very noisey there, so I'm not sure if you'd be relaxed. We didn't mind the noise because we were dining with our 3 little girls and prefer noisey restaurants. This way no one is staring at us. ;)

I think you would enjoy the coral reef, but if you are looking for more "adult dining" have you considered Citrico's or Jiko....just a thought, hope you enjoy your trip

Thanks for the replies! We already have reservations for Jiko. Yum! We're on the dining plan and I need a 1 TS place in Epcot. DH is a fairly picky eater so a lot of the WS places (Norway, China, Japan, Morocco, etc.) are out. We already have ADRs for Le Cellier so I was thinking about giving Coral Reef a try. We've never eaten there. Also considering the Yacht Club Galley. I assume it will be a little more laid back.

Thanks again!

It's a great evnvironment! It's just a very nice restaurant, not loud or anything like that. And there were no kids running around or anything. When we went there we didn't notice anyone else. To me that's a good environment :thumbsup2 lol. The food is so excellent as well. You'll love it. We requested a seat right next to the window into the tank... it was so amazing to sit right there. The waitress said next time we should try sitting farther back because you can see more, but I for one liked being up close to it much better. If you can request that when you get there, do it. They accomidated me and it didn't even take longer to be seated. This restaurant is one of my favourite memories from our trip!

The coral Reef is currently open from 11:30-3:30 for lunch

and 4:00-8:50pm for dinner

I guess we've had bad luck because we've eaten at the Coral Reef twice (Dec '05 and just last week) and both times have had a very bad time with loud, running, disruptive children clammoring all over the people sitting next to the tank. Dec '05 we were in the second row in the booths across from the tables next to the tank, but I felt so sorry for those poor people sitting by the tank, Kids were all over them, waiters were no help, and as soon as the people would shoo one group away another would take their place. One little girl knocked a glass over into a lady's lap. When I was coming back down the stairs after using the restroom, I almost got knocked to my knees by a boy running down the stairs. That only thing that saved me from a fall was the wall and the waiter I fell into. When we were there last week we got an aquariam side table without even asking (second one as you go in). When we arrived at our table the hostess had to shoo a little girl out of my ex's seat, so he could sit down. She came right back and kept trying to squeeze between my ex and the man just behind him. Both kept asking the little girl to please return to her table and finally had to get the waiter to escort her back. Her mom and GM just glared at us and she just kept coming back trying to squeeze into that small space between either my ex' chair and the aquarium or into the same space next to the guy behind us to take pictures of the sea turtle. Excuse me, but we don't want to babysit while we're trying to eat.

If I was the OP I would stick with Rose & Crown and ask for a patio table to enjoy Illuminations. We did both and believe me the Rose & Crown had better food and service.

It's a shame that some people have no respect for others and do not know how to control their children!!!!!

We had a FABULOUS dinner there last night (with our 2.5 year old). I did not notice any children out of control, I think the fish keep them occupied. We enjoyed our meal greatly, more so than California Grille or Le Cellier!

Although we enjoyed Coral Reef and thought the food was great, I was a little disapointed in how loud it was. Lots of kids who parents let them be as noisey and disruptive as they wanted. The service and food made up for it though. I might re consider going there, unless you go to the later seatings in hopes that there would be less kids there.
