Well let the fun begin, I have not been on the boards too much lately (seeing that I'm taking a year off from WDW and it's been torture).

Anyways I'm starting to plan for our March 2007 trip. I've never been to the Coral Reef ever b/c of some bad reviews. But, I've seen the new menu and it sounds real good. I was wondering how the menu is. I know that we will love the atmosphere (I've wanted to eat here since I was 5, just never have). Thanks

Hi

I ate there for the first time in June took my DD5 for her first trip. I let her pick all the resturants. We were on the DDP. When we arrived I asked for a table as close to the aquarium as possible. We were seated right next to it. Literally - table and then the glass. DD loved it. Our server was wonderful. DD got to order an appitizer off the adult menu, she did not see anything that she liked. She asked if she could have a bowl of fruit. It was the biggest bowl of fresh berries and melons. I had the shrimp cocktail. My main course was the Seared Sterling Salmon. It was too die for. Dessert was the Chocolate Wave....Mouth watering just thinking about it.

We are returning this April with the grandparents and it is on our list of must do dinners.

Hope this helps.

I ate at Coral Reef also. I probably won't go back due to other choices, but the food was pretty good (the chocolate wave was great!) and I think it's worth it once just for the experience. The atmosphere can't be beat!

We ate there in January with friends. We really enjoyed it a lot. The food was excellent. The atmostphere was lots of fun. I would definately do it again....actually we are doing it again in September with our grandsons! ;)

Coral Reef definitely gets mixed reviews. However, I've been seeing some pretty good reviews lately. I don't have it booked for our Nov/Dec trip (because of the reviews) but have since decided to add it to my February trip.I asked about the Blackened Catfish recently. You can see that thread here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1158667

I have made an ADR for january at the coral reef based on the fact they have steak as well as seafood. Has anyone been disappointed with their beef?

We were there in May--table at the tank. DD had filet mignon, I had salmon. Both were totally excellent. DD (15) didn't care for the lobster bisque--she liked it better at Les Chefs de France. Desserts were super.

And, I'd absolutely go there again.

Okay we ate their only last year because we had free dinning plan. Must say not worth the two meals that it cost us. I don't eat alot and with all the other dinners I couldn't eat all of the food. But with Coral Reef I ate the filet of beef with salad and didn't get full. I was still hungry and loved my dessert. I don't do seafood but my mom and hubby ate seafood. Both loved their food but were also hungry. I gave my appetizer to my son because he loves shrimp. He was hungry too. We aren't heavy people at all and don't overeat. I didn't make ressies for this year. It was neat eating near the aquarium but only for a few minutes. Now their desserts were our favorite out of all of our dinning for 8 days. So the next visit we will just go for dessert and save our two dinning seats. The beef was great but don't be surprised to be hungry after for real food.

This place gets a bum rap many times in reviews. It seems that the chief complaint is always or almost always the price. The food is very good. Portion size is not big. Service is excellent. Atmosphere is excellent. I have heard this place compared to a Red Lobster in food quality. That is simply not true. Coral Reef is a very good restaurant especially for a lunch choice. We have eatent here three times and never been disappointed.

We ate there in April this year and the menu had recently changed. The only beef option was NY strip steak. I had wanted filet before the menu changed. I'm sure it was good, but wasn't what I wanted. My husband said it was good, not great, as he had to eat it because I was full after the appetizer (ceasar salad). We tried it a second time during the same trip and I got the crab cake, which I didn't care for. While I think everyone should try this place at least once, we have decided to pass because of the limited menu selections, plus the service was very poor on our second visit this spring. The restraurant is unique, but is extremely busy and the servers can barely keep up. Our service on our first visit this spring was very good, but he lacked personality and was almost abrupt when taking the order, but he was very attentive.

We really like Coral Reef. I've always thought the food to be pretty good, and we have a lot of fun with the tank. It's worth at least one try, and then you'll know if it's for you or not! I just love it because nowhere else could I eat by a 5 million gallon tank (or however big it is)!

Enjoy!!!!! :Pinkbounc

I believe Coral Reef used to use 2 dining credits but it has changed and now it is only 1 dining credit. What a great opportunity to try something new!

We ate at Coral Reef when it was 2 dining credits and it was NOT worth 2 as far as I'm concerned BUT now that Coral Reef is 1 credit, I think it's well worth that (although I'm "cheap" with my TS credits and don't think many are worth the 2) ;)

We love coral reef, have never been disapointed in the service or the food, the lobster bisque is my favorite (apologies to the teen:), Will be going again in August, and are looking forward to the wasabi mashed potatoes and lobster bisque. The desserts are a can't miss, and we even like sitting up higher with a better view of the whole restaurant.

Have eaten there twice and we really like it. Very good food, great atmosphere, super service. Kids loved the Sundaes. Go and enjoy!

We ate there for the 1st time this past trip (May 2006). The priced scared us off before, but with the dinning plan why not?

It was very good, but a slow meal. Our server was great, but it was 2 hours until we were out of there. We had a big group though, 8 people (and 4 of them were kids.)

It was good food, not the best ever outside of WDW, but good. I think if I was paying reg rates I wouldn't have been as impressed.

It was like Morton's of Chicago prices, but not as good food. Not to say the food wasn't good. It really was though. The turtles put on a show, there was 2 of them, and I will leave it at that.

We ate there in June and LOVED the food. You should definitely give it a try. It was really good. :thumbsup2

We just got back from our trip last week and ended up eating twice at CR. We felt it was the best meal of our trip. The service there for us was great as well both times we went.

If we were not on the dining plan we simply could not afford a place like that for lunch, but on the dining plan we were having it!

The sirloin steak was perfectly done both times we got it and the Chocolate Wave was the best dessert i have had EVER!!!! Hubby agrees 100%!

I have talked about it every day since we got home! :rotfl2:
