We are going to WDW at Christmas and I have made ADRs for Coral Reef for lunch. However, a friend of mine just got back and said the food was horrible, that the high prices must be because of the fish. We have never been there and now are wondering whether it will be worth it. I'm not too worried about the prices, as we are on the DDP, but since there are supposed to be so many great restaurants at Epcot, we want to make sure we are hitting the best places (we LOVE food). Is there any difference between quality in lunch and dinner? They went for lunch also, and I am wondering if there is a difference. Any thoughts on Coral Reef?

I will agreewith your friend...sort of. I have been there for lunch. I will not say the food was horrid, or even bad. The best I can give it is FAIR. It is a beautiful restaurant, with an unequaled atmosphere (the fish, the divers) and we were glad we went, but we don't feel the need to go back. There are soooo many great restaurants in EPCOT, why put up wth mediocre?

We thought the food was fair, as well, but the atmosphere was lovely. We eat there on every other trip, because we really enjoy the quiet, peaceful, dimly lit dining room.

In comparison, we also tried San Angel because of the atmosphere, and we both agreed that the Coral Reef food is much better than that at the San Angel Inn. We would not return to San Angel, but, while Coral Reef is not on our must-do list, it is still one we enjoy occasionally.

Cheers!

You will get mixed reviews on every restaurant in WDW and outside of WDW. Simply because everyones tastes are different. There has been many bad reviews of Coral Reef but latley many good ones. I say if you want to try it, then try it. Especially being on DDP what do you have to loose? We will be trying it ourselves later this month..

We ate there for lunch last December and it was the best meal of the trip. We paid OOP for it because it was stil 2TS when we were there. My husband, myself and 10 year old ate ther for $60 including tip. My son had a kids pizza nad the drink with the glow cube, I had the blackend catfish and cheese grtits my husband had the daily special which included a salad and piece of cheesecake we all shared. We LOVED the food and the scenery. We were on the middle level which we thought was nicer because you could see more of the tank.

ENJOY!!!!:thumbsup2

I had the pleasure of eating there about 1 1/2 years ago and absolutely loved it! The food, the ambience and the service were all wonderful. I would definitely eat there again. :thumbsup2

lunch there is a "must do" for us. we go right when it opens and check in early to get a table by the tank.

A few years back, it was our favorite restaurant. We go to WDW a lot and we have been to almost every restaurant. We hit Coral Reef a few times and were not happy, so we haven't been back in a long time.

We had ADR's our last vacation. We got to our time 20 minutes before hand and were told that it would be about 1/2 hr after our reservation time. There were people all over the floor waiting. It was beyond crowded. I sent my boys in to see the fish tank and they were not impressed. I took a look and it had changed. It was not worth the wait.

For what they were charging, I could go eat anywhere else and be on or close to my ADR time. I like being treated like a valued patron, not some schlepp going to McDonald's. (Don't flame me, I love McDonalds too) :teeth: If I want to be treated like that, I grab a hot dog off a cart. I wanted to go to a 1st-class restaurant.

I certainly don't want to tell you what to do, but I will. Don't waste your time or money. My opinion.

We had lunch there last December. The atmosphere is great, the children's menu is sub-par -- boxed mac and cheese, frozen pizza, etc -- but DSis and her husband had a delicious Mahi Mahi that would definitely bring us back. My lunch was the special. It came with a salad, which we all split due to vegetable deficiency, and a trout dish, which was pretty bland. I definitely wouldn't order that again. Our server was one of the best I've ever had...he was knowledgable, accommodating, and always appeared at the table at the right moment. If he is indicative of the rest of the staff, it is worth listening to their suggestions. We would go back.

We ate at the Coral Reef last May. The service was great and the food was really good. Mickey came out in the aquarium with his scuba suit and waved to the kids for a long time maybe 30 minutes or so. All the kids loved it, even my jaded DS14 got the camera to take pictures he was so impressed.

I knew NOTHING about this! Thanks for the picture. Hopefully he'll show up when I go next month!

We had lunch here last September, only because we wanted to see the tank. It turned out to be a total surprise! Our food was delicious - and just the right portion size for lunch - and the desserts were excellent. We enjoyed the tank (not close to it, but got to see everything, including the scuba divers - sans the Mick - feeding the fish).

Go ahead and try it!
