Hello! Here's another installment from our wonderful trip the The World last month; we're a family of 3 with 9 Disney trips under our belts, and on this trip as usual we went with DDxDP.

I often see requests here for recent Coral Reef reviews, and it is a place that has gone through some ups and downs over the years -- although I can say that we've gone here every trip and have always enjoyed our meals (just that some were better than others, and some service was better than other times -- kind of just the way things go at any restaurant over a 10-year span!).

There are a few reasons, besides the food, why we eat here every trip:
1. The TS choices on the Future World side of Epcot are extremely limited, and even though there are, really, a ton of choices over in World Showcase, it's nice to be able to have a great meal and remain on this side of the park.

2. DS, 15, has always been fascinated by sea life, and the huge, wall-to-wall and nearly ceiling-to-floor tank in this room never fails to disappoint. I will say that we've sat in every level/row of this restaurant over the years and there really are no bad seats; in fact, the farther away you are from the tank, the better your overall view of it is -- and this time we sat in the very back row and had a banquette that allowed us all to sit basically facing the tank, which was tremendous.

3. We live in the Boston area, and no matter what time of year we go to WDW, we are always overwhelmed by the amount of sunshine. At first on our trips we didn't realize/appreciate how overwhelming and exhausting it is on ALL your body's systems; now we understand how hugely restorative it is to plan time to be completely out of the sun and in darkness. This restaurant, which is dark and gives you the feeling that you yourself are under water, always makes us feel relaxed and refreshed in a way that gives us a huge boost of energy.

So on to the food!
For appetizer, DS and I each ordered:

Flash Fried Nori Wrrapped Tuna - with Yuzu Soy Syrup and Wasabi Cream. I apologize that my photo is so poor and does not make this look as incredibly appetizing as it is! I could have gone for an entree-sized portion of this and I wish I could have -- I adored this but being the incredibly loving and kind person that I am (;)), I insisted that DH have one. It wasn't easy, but as I predicted he loved it, too. (DS loved it so much that HE wasn't sharing, but I can't say as I blame him!) The tuna was incredibly fresh and just the very light cooking gave it a wonderful texture. The sauces brought out a nice, spicy element without being overwhelming, and the little bit of crispiness is probably the factor that made you just want more of these luscious little flavor bursts.

DH tried:

Crispy fried shrimp with spiced remoulade. The current menu that is posted over at All Ears shows this as only part of an appetizer for two plate, but (and yes, I should have taken better notes), this was a straight-up option on the menu when we ordered.

For my entree, I went with my favorite here:

Grilled Mahi Mahi - with Laughing Bird Shrimp, Hearts of Palm, Jasmine Rice, Cilantro, and a Coconut-Lime Sauce. They do mix this up a little from time-to-time, adjusting various elements of the dish -- but as always, this was fantastic. Such an inviting array of flavors, fish perfectly cooked, portion size just right, everything fresh. I was a very happy camper.

DH tried:

Orange Ginger-glazed Scottish Salmon - with Vegetable Stir-fry. It was the Scottish Salmon part that caught his eye (we all love salmon, but certain types more than others) and he was not disappointed. This was cooked *just* to the very perfect edge of just being done (so still slightly pink at the center). The flakes just fell right off, and the sauce added flavor without overwhelming the fish.

DS, who really is a fish-lover, decided to play it low-key and went with:

Caesar Salad with grilled chicken breast. He appreciated that the chicken wasn't overdone or rubbery -- nice, tender, and warm. He loves when the parmesan is in flakes like this.

And onto dessert!

DS and I bookended the meal by being twins again, both choosing:

The Chocolate Wave - served with Raspberry Gelato -- a little molten chocolate cake of goodness. DS ordered his without the raspberry sauce, gelato, or rasberry and that was no problem. This has been on the menu more or less forever, with good reason.

DH went with:

Classic Vanilla Caramel Flan, which was very light and cool and creamy -- a smart way to finish up a great meal on a hot day.

Service was friendly and efficient without being intrusive. This definitely stays on our "must do" list!

Love this review! We are heading back to Coral Reef next month and I have been hesitant. I do love the aquarium and have very fond memories from our very first Mom & Son trip back in 2007.

Thank you for making me look forward to our lunch!

Absolutely -- I hope you enjoy your meal as much as we enjoyed ours and that your trip is entirely magical!

Thanks for the great review. While reading your review it got me to thinking that in 40+ trips to WDW we have only dined at Coral Reef once. I really can't say why it just never comes up when we make our adrs. After reading your review we will have to give it another try in the future.

I hope you do give it another try -- as I said, I think that the draw of all the TS places in World Showcase probably makes it hard, but Coral Reef is, we think, really worth the trip!

Love the Chocolate wave. One of my favorite desserts. I can't wait to eat there again in less than two weeks. Glad to see everything still looks good. :thumbsup2

Great review, again! I want to try this, but not sure if we can make it happen for our trip. That tuna app looks ah-mazing.

I am so bummed that we ended up cancelling our ressie for CR this past trip! Your food looks amazing. Your DH's appetizer looks so good I can hardly stand it that I missed out!!! Oh well...maybe next time. Thanks for the review!

Oh thank you for posting this! I was so excited when I made my CR res (in an aquarium?! but then came to the Dis and found so many disappointing reviews. I was determined to still go because if nothing else the atmosphere must be so neat, but this is so great to see and hear! Everything looks amazing! So excited to be there in a couple weeks!!
Thanks again!

Nice review! My DH and I ate there a few years ago and we really liked it. We sat by the aquarium so it made the experience even better.

Thank you for doing this review. I have been really getting scared after reading some other posts about this place. This will be our last ADR in Disney as a lunch, I want to leave the World with a happy memory.

DH and I had lunch at CR on our anniversary two weeks ago and it was one of the best meals we had over 14 nights. I loved the mahi mahi, and we also appreciated the cool and dark on a very hot August day. Service was also great, drinks were refilled before having to ask and our waitress was very attentive. I was hesitant to go after reading some less than glowing reviews, but we loved it and would highly recommend eating here.

Delighted to hear that your experience, too, was so positive. Happy Anniversary!!!

We were also there recently (about a week ago) and had an awesome time! Our food was awesome and our server was very sweet and helpful. We didn't experience any of the negative things that seem to so frequently associated with CR around here!

I am so glad I found your review. This is our first time going to CR (its our 8th trip to the WORLD!) and I was debating changing it for Teppan Edo but now I wont and am looking forward to it!!

Glad to hear a good review. We had a lunch reservation here last trip and had to cancel because we all got sick. I made one for the upcoming trip and can't wait to try it. :)
