On AllEarsNet.com it says there are no substitutions on the Chef's Recommendation Lunch. Is this really true? MIL wants to get that lunch, but she doesn't eat seafood and would like to get the Corn Chowder, instead of the Creamy Lobster Soup.

Also, how are the Blue Crab Cakes? I've been craving crab cakes.

Would they have a problem if I wanted to get two starters, instead of an entree?

Any other info on lunch at Coral Reef would be appriciated. :fish:

We went in May to the Coral Reef at lunch and had an enjoyable time.

FH had the Chef's special lunch, and what we did was that I ordered something he wanted for an appetizer, and when his soup and my appetizer came out, we switched. We didn't bother asking about substitutions because that was pretty much what each of us wanted.

And also, with the chef's special lunch, don't bother with the chicken salad sandwich. It's overdressed and bland. Salt and pepper helped a bit, but it still wasn't great. If your mother in law plans on doing the chef's special and she doesn't like fish, I'd recommend trying something other than the special.

The crab cake was excellent, with lump meat (yay! hard to find sometimes) and a nice tangy slaw on the side.

When we went, I ordered two appetizers and dessert as my meal. No one's going to give you a problem about ordering appetizers instead of an entree.

We went in July and the crab cakes were delicious! In fact everything we had there was good. I can't help with the chef's special as neither I nor hubby ordered it.

We were able to substitute with the chef's special. The first course had something DH couldn't eat so he was able to substitute something else (soup or salad, I forget at the moment) and the dessert was something neither of us could eat so they let us pick off the menu.

Of course the fact that we were on our honeymoon might have had something to do with it.

I am so glad you asked about those crab cakes, yum. Now I just have to remember to order them... I think I need to make some sort of cheat sheet with all the dining tips for each place we plan to eat at...

We had lunch at Coral Reef on August 23. The lunch menu was different from the one at allears, but only slight differences.

I did have a crab cake and it was quite good. Surprisingly enough, I had the BEST crab cake at Liberty Tree Tavern (MK) at lunch!

Anyway, back to Coral Reef - the lunch was fantastic! The desserts we ordered were to die for - I got the 50th celebration dessert and it was incredible.

I'm so glad to hear the crab cakes are good.

Harambe ~ Tell me about the 50th celebration dessert.

The description on the menu did NOT do it justice. It was a very light orange mouse, with a thin layer of pound cake wrapped around it, sitting in a small pool of orange (again, the orange flavoring was very light) sauce, topped with fresh whipped creme and a 50th celebration chocolate medallion.

MMMMmmmmmm . . .

That dessert sounds yummy. We might just go to coral reef for drinks and dessert since we are not on the dining plan and the menu looks kind of pricey.
Can't wait to try it.
Thanks
Suzy V
