Hi everyone...

I know this has been addressed before, but I couldn't search it and get the appropriate answer. I need to know if a copy from my home computer of the kids birth certificates is okay. Do they need to be current and stamped? I probably have the boys from when they were born 12 and 14 years ago, but wondered if this is acceptabe. Thank you so much for your help in advance. :)

It does not have to be an original with raised seal. But it must be a copy of an original. If they have some sort of government-issued photo ID, such as a passport or a state ID that is actually preferred.

Will a copy of the front page of a passport be OK?

I'd bring the passport (although I know there is the chance of losing it). The official language states a government issued ID (not copy), or an original or copy of a birth certificate is fine for kids under 18. I'm not sure they would accept a copy of a passport.

Official or certified copies of birth certificates will each have the raised seal or multicolored/holographic stamp.

Ordinary photocopies you make yourself are not acceptable.

seem to conflict with one another.

I'm not sure I understand what what is being asked for here.

The voucher states that an original OR a copy can be used for a person under 18. It does not specify whether it has to be 'certified". Can we use a photocopy or not? If not, what specifically do I need to bring? Either the original (ie the one received after birth), or an official copy from the state (which would have to be ordered in advanced and be paid for)?

If I have to get a certified copy, why don't I just bring the original?

The GAD voucher says "If under 18, you can instead bring an original or a copy of a birth certificate (school children security ID's not accepted)." It says nothing about it being a certified copy. If they wanted a certified copy they would say so. We are bringing a copy, just like it says you can right on the GAD voucher. If it makes you breathe easier to get a certified copy, then you should, but that is not what it says on the GAD voucher.

See I was going under the impression that photocopies were fine. That is what I planned on bringing with us.

You do not need a certified copy for the GAD promotion. I believe you were required to have a certified copy for the birthday promotion last year.

My DD could not find my grandsons BC or even a copy at the last minute. They gave him his ticket anyways, and took my DL # in it's place. They didn't even look at the papers we did bring. It did take a bit longer, because a supervisor had to be called for the transaction. They were very wonderful about it. I was so stressed about it.

I redeemed our GAD passes on May 24th and that included our 2 sons ages 11 & 7 and all I had was copies (that I made myself) of their birth certificates and it was just fine. :thumbsup2

I am so glad to read that. My daughter was born abroad (to US citizens) and so only has a counselors report of birth abroad. I can not risk losing the original, as it is nearly impossible to replace. It looks nothing like a BC and truly, unless you have had to deal with one, it doesn't look very official as a photocopy. I have been pretty worried about it, although I have made my peace with the idea that we may have to just donate her GAD.

I am taking a copy made by me with my scanner/printer. No way am I taking the originals and I don't have time to order certified copies at this point. So hopefully they will work. If not, lesson learned.

It will. All you need is a copy. Certified copies were only needed during the Birthday promotion.
