Without going into my whole life saga, the past three years have been extremely rough. Every time I am pulling myself up, some other trauma happens. Now the latest is my DD 11 has been diagnosed with depression and anxiety and I have been spending so much energy on her problems and the regular stuff with my other 2 kids that once again I have fallen to the bottom of the pile. And if I'm on the bottom, my dh is in the basement! (thank God for him!)

One second I say to myself that this is not the time to handle the weight issues, then I see myself and just want to cry!

I just don't know what to do...should I just try and concentrate on eating healthy and exercising and not obsess about the weight? Eating is my only vice (besides the dis!) and I just don't feel strong enough to stop right now.

thanks for listening!

I think that you have a good idea to focus on eating healthy and maybe add in some activity or exercise. If you don't feel that you can commit to weight loss right now then you probably won't succeed. So if you just focus on health maybe the weight will follow.

I also think that you will be surprised at how much better you can handle life's struggles when you are healthier and fitter. i think you will get benefits that you don't anticipate now.

You may not have the time or desire right now, but i'm doing WW and it has taught me so much about healthy eating. But there aer many other sources of information.

good luck. Please make sure you make time for you!

Vivienne - sorry to hear you're having such a rough time right now. How 'bout just trying to eat healthy for now? I'm 50 years old and have been overweight most of my adult life (& we're not talking just a few pounds here!) Maybe right now is not the time for you to concentrate on dieting. I know I couldn't do it until I was really ready. Maybe just try to cut back on carbs (breads, potatoes, pasta) or when you have a sandwich, make sure it's a high-fiber bread. I'm sure you'll get varying opinions here, but you can only do so much. Sometimes paying attention to ourselves, as Moms, takes the "back seat". Right or wrong - it happens. Hang in there. Stop by here for encouragment when you can.

Hang in there - you have come to the right place! WISH board is a fantastic support system. I'm soooo sorry to hear about your DD and the struggles you are going through - I'll keep you in my prayers:wave2:

Maybe your post is a sign that you ARE ready to become a healthier gal? Good for you! Don't look at the big picture, it's far to overwhelming! Make small changes that seem doable in your life (eating, activity) and just focus on those until they are mastered and you are ready to take it to another level. Remember - this is not a race! It's a healthy lifestyle change so it must be one that you can LIVE with!

Keep us posted, we are all in this journey together!

I think it is only a decision you can make. I am feeling a bit overwhelmed in life right now too. Losing weight has given me a sense of power because I know that I am in control of something. And when I am stressed the best thing I can do is exercise, even if it is just going for a walk. If you feel committed to losing weight, why not start now? If you are not, maybe make one small change and see how that is for you. Good luck to you!

(((HUGS))),
You are going through so much right now. I bet it's almost overwhelming to handle that plus dieting. How about trying to pick one or two habits and try to change them. Drink more water, eat more fruits and veggies, write down everything you eat, etc. Then when you feel comfortable with that add something else. It's definately true that gaining control over overeating and learning to eat healther that it has such power. You owe it to yourself to try to find some time to devote to you. I know it's not easy since all your time and energy is being devoted to DD. Good luck.

Thank you so much for the kind words and suggestions!! Ohmom is right, I DO want to do this now, I just keep changing course every five minutes!!

I am stressing too because I feel like I do have a deadline of Christmas because we're going to WDW and seeing my best friend and aunt. Obviously, my logical mind knows they will still love me fat, but it's nice to feel good about how you look.

I'm going to take everyone's advice and start small!

Thanks Again!

Vivienne
