AP may have Copper River Salmon while we are there. We like fish, but they say the taste of this fish is amazing. Does it taste that different from the salmon we are used to? Is there enough for DH and me to share if we order appetizers? Since it is not on the official menus, I'm concerned about pricing.

My sister and I had the Copper River Salmon when we had dinner at Artist Point last year. We did something similar to what you're planning - we got two appetizers (the Portobello soup and the crab cake) and then split the salmon entrée. The restaurant was nice enough to split the salmon and it's sides onto two plates for us:

We paid $49.00 for the salmon entrée last year - I'm not sure how that compares to the usual price.

Even if you're on the fence about the salmon, I HIGHLY recommend Artist Point. We agreed that we loved our meal here and I look forward to eating here again in a few weeks. Also, as long as you're not allergic to mushrooms, the Portobello Soup is TO DIE FOR good. We both would've licked the bowl if that would have been considered appropriate.

To answer that a person would need to know what the salmon you are used to tastes like.

If you like salmon, you'll love Copper River salmon. It's richer and fattier (in a good way) than farmed salmon and a beautiful color. If you've never had it. it's worth the splurge.

You're going in 5 weeks? AP may not have Copper River by then. The Opening is usually mid-May and prices are through the roof the first couple of weeks.

Copper River salmon is a darker red before you cook it and it is very very good. Defintely something worth a try.

Our standards are pretty low . . . salmon from Applebees or salmon we buy at the grocery store and grill ourselves.

AP may not have Copper River by then.
We'll be cutting it close, but it looks like AP has added it to the menu sometimes around the 20th of May.
