Well I finally bit the bullet and bought one of their cleaning kits. Anyone use these and can give me some advice? Do I need to build a clean room in my house, cause I don't think the wife will be too happy with me if I do :)

TIA.

I have one and have used it a few times. Works pretty well. The hardest thing is seeing down inside the camera while you're trying to clean it. I need to get on of those little headlights that REI sells.......

I always try to make the area as dust free as possible. No open windows, cats jumping on the table, that kind of thing. Beyond that, just follow the instructions and don't drink all the coffee prior to cleaning!! :rolleyes1

I posted the same questions over at Nikonians and one guys suggested doing it in the bathroom. Said it was one of the least dusty rooms in the house.

That makes sense! Less cushions, pillows and the like.

Best seat in the house too!!!:rolleyes1

Amen to that! Also, if you are in the bathroom, noone will bother you. At least they don't at my house for some reason... :confused3

Some zealots will tell you to run the shower for a while first as well, to help knock dust out of the air. I'm not quite as particular and haven't had problems.

The biggest rule to remember is to make sure that you have a good charge on your battery while cleaning. If the battery gives out, the shutter closes. If your shutter closes on something, it could get farkled. I've never heard of it happening, but it's something I always check before I start working.

Really, you should ask boB about it sometime :)

Guess I will try it out this weekend, prob want to clean the bathroom first...

Is that a technical term Mark??? :rotfl2: I just love expanding my vocabulary......

Are you kidding?! As soon as I shut that bathroom door, everyone is standing right outside the door "mom, mom, mom..."!

"Farkled" was putting it mildly, although I used part of the word somewhere in my 45 seconds of cussing without repeating a word.

After $200 to replace the farkled shutter and another $100 to adjust the equally farkled mirror (and to replace a switch that was going bad) my 10d is in great shape.
Yep, check the battery, and use your newest one! The hardcore do the cleaning with the camera pointing down to reduce the chance of any dust getting in. It's a great form of yoga.

Other than that, the Copperhill method works very well.

I've used Copperhill's stuff a number of times. It gets easier with each time you clean. The setting up process takes the most time. The actual swiping of the sensor lasts just a few seconds. The stuff works well.

I use the basement. The finished part anyway. Not a lot going on down there and I can be left alone for the 10 minutes or so.

Have you all just ordered the basic cleaning kit? Or do you recommend the brush too?

Clearly you are not the mother of small children. ;)

yeah not so fond memories of my at the time "little one" bringing the cordless phone to me while i was "busy" in the bathroom so i could talk to her teacher....... multi-tasking has it's limits:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

not so ot , i still haven't' attempted it but i did get a magnifying lamp from Cheap Joes( or some art catalog) that was cheap( under $15) but nice for cleaning with some with less than spectacular visual acuity

Not everyone subscribes to that limit--I've heard several people answer their cell phones in public restrooms recently (my 4yo seems to need to try out the potty everywhere she goes :confused3 ). Ewwwww! :rotfl2:

The magnifying lamp is probably a good idea. I've had several dust spots for quite some time, but my fear of touching the sensor outweighed the nuisance because they only show up with small apertures against a fairly solid background. But while we were in Hilton Head a few weeks ago, some nasty piece of debris adhered itself there. I tried cleaning it with the blower, but it didn't work, and I can't see a darn thing on there when I look at it. So it looks like I'm going to have to overcome my fear of the real cleaning.

Nope, the father of one little girl who knows better! :scared1:

One night our youngest was beating down the door while dh was in there. He told her that he wanted some privacy, and she asked him if he needed one of those "privacy things." Naturally he had no idea what she was talking about, but she kept insisting and finally opened the door and offered him a . . . umm . . . feminine hygiene product. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Not sure what they'll make of my cleaning my camera in the bathroom. :rotfl2:
