Once Carousel of Progress starts you may not get out (except for an emergency that affects just about everyone inside). Any more than getting out of Spaceship Earth or Splash Mountain or any other ride in the middle.
I agree, except for the comparisons.
CoP is much closer to the type of show that is the Tiki Room, ITtBaB, HISTA, Philharmagic, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, and Muppets (even B&B on stage, Festival of the Lion King, Indy and LMA Stunt shows, and Fantasmic!)
Guests are sitting in a "theater seats" (of various kinds).
You certainly CAN exit Tiki during the show (although I hate it when folks DO that).
Likewise, folks (hopefully) take their screaming kids out of these other attractions as well.
Many times before these theater shows, there is an annoucement of which way to exit DURING THE SHOW, if you need to.
So the easy CONFUSION is that in a show like CoP, with such easy access to doors that have lighted "EXIT" signs over them (a legal requirement, of course), and usually no CM standing up front (like they ALWAYS used to have), many guests just think they can get up and leave if they want... and some DO.
I agree they are not supposed to, but its just too "easy and inviting" for some to ignore.
Back to comparisons: There is no obvious egress that would "invite" one to just "step out" of, say, a log in Splash...
I know that some odd guests even do THAT, but those ride-in-vehicle attractions are far different than the theater shows.
