What are some things/ways you do to try and cool down while you're in Disney during the hot summer months?? I'll be going in less than two weeks, I've been there before around this time of year and its so hot. Just wanted to know how you guys "cool off".

A couple of things we do -

Take an empty water bottle and refill it from the water fountains throughout the parks. It's just the two of us so it's easy to share.

My husband always takes an extra T shirt to change in the middle of the day. Also takes a pair of unmentionables and says it really makes a difference. I take an extra shirt and an extra pair of socks.

My biggest thing and I will never go anywhere in the summer without it - a washcloth in a Ziploc bag. Wetting the thing in the bathroom and washing yourself down is a life saver, at least for me. Doesn't take up much room but is so, so nice.

I think I will try the washcloth thing and we normally drink lots of water and we all have the little personal fans hanging around our knecks, it really helps when standing in line..

We don't and we do just fine in the summer. :rolleyes1

- Take breaks. The best kinds of breaks are in air-conditioned rooms.
- The "mist fans" are nice. You can get these at Walmart for much less than at WDW. Make sure you replace the water at least daily, to keep it somewhat cool.
- Don't carry so many things. Bags, camera bags, backpacks, etc. just seem to make me hotter. The lighter I am when walking around, usually the cooler I am. If you have a stroller, put as much as you can in the stroller when walking around, without risking something being stolen. Of course, mist fans are the exception to this rule ;).
- If you're staying onsite, take an afternoon break at the resort and maybe take a dip in the pool.

To beat the heat I visit only in the off-season. But when my family visited in the summer, we would take breaks in the afternoon when it's the hotest and busiest and go back to our hotel for a swim/nap. It also was great to do this because it often rains (I mean pours) in the afternoon which makes it even more muggy and we were fine in the nice a/c.

To cool off:

As a slightly overweight male, I like to wear the belly, cut off shirts. Gives nice air-flow through the mid-section. I figure so many other ladies, that shouldn't wear them do, so who'd notice me?
Then I like to wear pants that are waaaaayy too short for my horribly toned legs (ok I have nice legs, but stick with me here) since I see so many others doing the same when they shouldn't.
Of course, the underwear has to show, so that when I sit down, I obviously put on a show of my "private" areas, but who cares right? I'm cool!

I hope the point was made :cool1:

The personal fans that can hang around your neck are really key, drinking lots of water and really just taking a break, walk into a store for a minute and get cool and refreshed and continue walking on to your next attraction/ride.

Besides the washcloth idea, I also bring along (traveler's size) Ponds cloths, they are refreshing and are kind of like diaper wipes and they cool you off wonderfully.

32 days till Coronado Springs for 10 days!!!!!! :wizard:

Don't over do it in the heat of the day. Make the most of EMH when it fits with your schedule and definitely take a break in the middle of the day. Take a dip in the pool or hit one of the water parks if you prefer. Take time to hit some of the shows and just relax for a few minutes in a cool spot.

And finally, make sure to hit frozen treats as frequently as possible. Ice cream bars and dole whips work best on those unbearably hot days. It's amazing how much cooler 95 degrees can feel when you are eating a Dole Whip. :cool1:

You could also ride the long indoor rides during the peak of the afternoon. Like at MK, Haunted Mansion, Phillarmagic, COP, just to name a few. This way you will be in a cool setting for a good chunk of the time. Also, when having lunch, don't just eat, and rush back out for more rides. Enjoy the time, relax for a few minutes after eating. I have some of the best chats with my friends after we eat.

walk through the shops instead of around them whenever possible. i agree with going back to your hotel for a quick dip and/or a nap, it really revives you and gives you energy for the late night attractions. another thing we did was go to the indoor shows such as country bears or at epcot interventions for indoor activities. mostly, take your time and walk slowly and drink lots of water.

I have to agree! I remember last August about mid day, the heat was just unbearable in the MK and I got a Dole Whip. Well that was the best thing I could have done. They work miracles in the heat! :flower:

I don't know. Going through a bunch of interventions might make me hotter rather than cooler! ;)

But walking through Innoventions at EPCOT might be quite a good way to cool off.

In the MK... A Dole Whip and the Tiki Room! :goodvibes

The fans get caught in the hair and I found Misty Mates at Walmart for 13.88 thanks to those posting and helping me out. They are awesome. We tried it for the 90 heat wave we are having when we spent 6 hours out in it. They are awesome. Good luck beating the heat. :flower:  :hourglass

My DH wears his CamelBack full of ice -- it keeps his back cool, and as it melts throughout the day he can sip on the water. He uses the pockets for keys, wallet, etc... and is easier to take off to ride a ride than worrying about wallet falling out of pockets.

Oh yeah -- the Dole Whips really help! I love those!

We also go to the park as soon as it opens and go back to the hotel in the afternoon to swim or nap! Then hit the parks again around dinner time feeling much better!

I've never seen a Misty Mate. I do have the Disney fan with the water bottle. How do they differ? Is the Misty Mate really that much better? If so, I'm going to Wal-Mart before my trip next week. Where in Wal-Mart do you find them? Thanks! :flower:

I found Misty Mate to be much better then the misty fans. You can add ice to the water. After pumping it, it can last a couple of hours.

I just made a point of not letting my kids point the misty at other people though.
