We were at a 4th of July fair and a couple was there from Kansas City. They only sell these at fairs around the country, not online or over the phone. I think they're missing out on a ton of business because when I saw this frame, I had to have it! They made another one in less than 10 minutes! They had them in every style you could imagine (Hawaii, Harley, Cruise, Vacation, Honeymoon, Family, Grandparents, Grandkids, etc, etc). They could custom make your last name too. Unreal!

It was really fun to pick out the pictures from our five WDW trips to put in this frame!

I think it's very cool and would love to have one like that as well.

Thanks for showing us. :)

I suspect that they do not sell anywhere else b/c they realize that if Disney found out, they would likely get sued. You cannot sell something like that without their permission, but selling at fairs/flea markets will not draw corporate attention as there is no permanant storefront. Selling online will draw attention.

Ooh - I want one - do you think most Mat-cutting places can do that?

Can they? yes. Will they? probably not due to the reasons above. Can you do this yourself? if you have a steady hand and some patience.

Just out of curiosity - how much did it cost? And did you buy the mat and frame together? (I would imagine you did because of the funky size)

www.mattsmattesonline.com has virtually the exact same thing as what was at the fair. But they're a bit more costly. If you Google search "custom name matte" you'll find a few more companies.

The people at the fair had about 50 different frame/mattes on display and they could make anything for you in 10 minutes (custom family name, etc). I bought the pre-made Disney matte/frame just like this and they made another one in 10 minutes to display again. Amazing! They had a machine that made the cuts for them.

We paid just $29.99 for this frame/matte combo which is what most of them cost.

They had a Harley one in black and orange. They had a Hawaii one with palm trees on either side. They a cruise one with ships on either side. Very cool.

Thanks for the compliments, I'm really happy with this frame. It was just one of those impulse buys that, once you get it home and on the wall, you're really glad you got it!

Very cool. And the picture selections for the windows look just perfect too. :thumbsup2

Very Cool  Thanks for sharing it with us. I would love one.

I would agree with ukcatfan - this is almost certainly an unlicensed knock-off, cool or not. It's also a very un-Disney-like font.

If there was any doubt, check out that Matt's Mattes link - the Disney ones have "three overlapping circles" in them. Give me a break, Matt... I doubt any court would buy that those are just supposed to be "three overlapping circles"! :rotfl:

Don't get me wrong, I've got an unlicensed "WRC" die-cut sticker on my car, because there's no legal equivalent... just saying, that's probably why you don't see these in the official Disney stores. And if Disney did start carrying them, they might crack down on people selling unlicensed ones.

Oh boy. I didn't mean to get into all this "legality stuff." The reason the people I bought the frame from do not sell online or with a telephone number is because they have too much business already just going to fairs. They had a ton of pre-made frames/mattes that said FAMILY, SISTERS, WEDDING, GRADUATION, HAWAII, CRUISE, VACATION, geez, they tons more that they could make, along with your own last name if you wanted it. They could make them right there in 10 minutes. The "font" they use is to allow as much of a photograph to show as possible. It isn't a "Disney font" or a "Honeymoom font" or any other kind of "font." It's just to show the pictures inside of a readable letter. They were selling like hot cakes! Not the Disney one, I was the only one I saw buying that one. But the other NAMES, or SISTERS or whatever were a hot item. I had never seen a frame like this before and if they didn't have the Disney one, I would have had one made in our last name.

I did not mean to ruffle your feathers. If you re-read what I wrote, you will see that I was not passing judgement on you. I was just answering why they were unlikely to expand the Disney frames to the web and if you could find someone else to do one. Go to any true print shop(i.e. for advertising, signs, etc) and they will not touch something with a copyright, but go to some fly-by-night screenprint shop and they will do anything you want. That is why I doubt that any B&M framing shop will do copyright stuff b/c it is not worth the risk of a lawsuit if they are caught. I am in the same boat as Groucho. I have a Mickey tattoo that is not authorized, but then again, I can't get an authorized Disney tattoo since the tattoo shop at DTD closed up... :rotfl2: :lmao: (wouldn't that be something?)

As for them being too busy to do more, come on, what if Bill Gates had said that he was busy enough making software for IBM instead of going out on his own... There is no reason that they could not expand to other outlets with all of the generic stuff other than they just do not want to take a chance at it. You can always hire people if the work load gets too big. Free market economy baby!!! Anyway, that has nothing at all to do with you, just my own rant. :)

Disclosure: I am a Disney stockholder and the ~$10/yr I get in dividends gets reinvested in the company in the form of vacations!!! What will $10 get you these days at WDW anyway, two fountain drinks in the park? :confused3
