has anyone gotten a stirofoam cooler, filled it w/ ice & kept drinks in it instead of getting a fridge? i'm wondering if it's worth the hassle or should i just get a fridge. i'm going to put bottled water, soda, milk & maybe fresh fruit...the milk i'm the most concerned about but figure - if it doesn't work out then i'll get a fridge or buy milk in the food court as needed. what do you think? i'm stopping at the grocery store & if they have coolers, i will buy one there. thanks.

Instead of paying $10 a day for a frig, using a cooler is definitely worth it.! We pack a large, collapsable cooler in our suitcase. It works out great! :jumping4: :jumping4: :jumping4:

If you are doing a grocery stop at Publics they will have the styrofome ones most likely right up front in the store. That's what we did and it worked out fine. We did place the cooler in the tub during the day so if it would leak it would not make a mess. I got some lunch meat and go-gert, as well as some milk and juice for the kids. It was nice to be able to have a snack in the room. :D

We did pay for the fridge on 1 trip to ASMo, but since we drive from NY we had the cooler too. Kids loved getting the ice ::yes::. Since then it's been cooler only and it works fine.

This is no problem... we do it all the time, and then just throw away the styrofoam cooler before we go home.

Last year we stayed in the ASM and we bought a styrofoam cooler from Wal-mart $2.99 and we filled ziploc bags with ice everyday and put our bottle water in there. We also bought milk at the store and stored it in there too. We had no problems what so ever with leakage or a mess. Kept our water cool.

I was going to suggest the ziplock bags for the ice. If you are flying, you could bring a collapsable cooler in your suitcase, and then you can use it over and over again. When we drive, we bring our electric cooler we got at Walmart:

I didn't buy it online, I got it at the store. It worked great (and didn't have to bother getting ice). We also used it in the car for snacks along the way. Just remember to unplug it when you stop over night. We forgot once, and left it plugged in and had to call AAA for a jump. It only held us up about 45 minutes and we were on our way (I hope we don't forget again).

We kept a styrofoam cooler in our room at AKL last year! We just put it inside the closet with a towel thrown over the top and added/changed the ice regularly. We kept milk and juice, plus water and fruit, in ours and it stayed very cold.

Ziploc's for Ice..... Great Idea! Thanks for that one.. We will use that for our trip in a couple weeks!

On our last trip when we stayed at ALL Star Music, we actually stopped by the local Wal-mart and they were out of the Styro foam coolers, so we picked up a $10 igloo and filled it will ziplocs of ice and put our water and milk in it. When we were leaving, we found a family just arriving and offered it to them and they gladly accepted it. :flower1: There was no way we were going to carry the cooler home with us on the plane. The $10 was definetly worth the convenience of having somewhere to store our cold stuff and not pay for the refrigerator nightly in the hotel room

we got the same $10 igloo at walmart on our first day and it was GREAT! we were room-bound for hurricane frances and had to keep two days worth of food in it, and had no problem... it was our plan to give it away like you did, but we had a few items left to pack and tossed them in and were pleasantly surprised that the airline allowed us to check it as baggage... great way to bring home our souvies! and the cooler is going strong :)

We rented a fridge form A Baby's Best Friend (www.abbf.com) in Orlando for $45 for the whole week, rather than the $10/day the hotel wanted. And ABBF delivered it for us and then picked it up when we left. Nice size too, held lots of bottles of water, milk, food, etc. I dislike the hassle of cooler/ice every day. This was worth it completely.
