Cooler bag dimensions

How strict are they at imposing the max dimensions (8"x6"x6") for soft cooler bags? I will have an ECV with a front basket. I want the bag to at least hold 5 small bottles of water and some ice packs. I have a cooler bag that would fit in the basket but is 11"x8"x5".
