Cool, overlooked things to do at WDW????

A couple years ago (before I discovered these boards) we just decided to give BOMA a try. After an incredible meal there, we strolled out to the savannah in the back. It was just before dusk, there was maybe one other family there. There's a CM / guide on duty. Ours was from Africa. He held my DS way up to the fence, pointed out several animals, gave us all kind of info, answered endless questions, etc. Nicest, most informative person you'd ever meet. This was truly a Disney moment, especialy after spending several hours fighting crowds at AK and really not seeing any animals at all. He really spent a lot of time with my DS, made us all feel very special. It was the hilite of our trip. We've gone back a couple times since and had similar experiences. (A little busier, but could have been the timing). However the guides there are some of the best cast memebers in all of Disney.

NewMom 11, we had the same experience at our first trip to the Fort Wilderness Cabins. While I was checking us in, a CM spent some time telling my kids about the butterflies and cocoons in the landscaping just outside the building. He was kind, informative, and had the complete attention of all 4 of my children. I thought to myself, "This is why I keep coming to Disney."

The free 1/2 hour guided tour of Morocco in Epcot. It's currently given twice a day, at 1:00 and 3:00. Sign up at the Kidcot area (I don't remember the exact place-anyone can direct you). I've done it twice, once we signed up about 20 minutes beforehand, and we were the only ones on the tour.

Just curious, since I've never heard of this one....what exactly do you tour?? Would children enjoy it??

Thanks.

I took the tour in Morocco in April 2004. There were only four of us, all adults. It was very informative and interesting but probably wouldn't be much fun for kids. You are guided around the Morocco pavillion by one of the CMs who talks about the history, the significance of the architecture, etc. It's a good way to get you to actually understand and appreciate what you're looking at! I'd recommend it for history/culture buffs.

I heard once that there was a similar tour at Norway. I asked at that pavillion, but they just looked at me like I was making things up!

It's recently been posted that the tour is no longer offered in Morocco. :guilty:

OMG!!! How creepy is she!!! she scared the cr** out of me the last time i was there. it is just creepy in a cool kinda way!---

and-- how beautiful is she??! did you notice-- i was saying it to my husband and all he wanted to know is how she walked so well on the stilts!!! :rotfl2: :lmao: It least i KNOW where his mind is! :rotfl2:

LOL :rotfl: She scared my kids last time we were at Disney. They were walking about 7-8 feet in front of us. We didn't even see her at first. She was kind of hiding by the bushes and she blends in very well. :scared1: She stepped out when they got close to her and they turned around and ran back to us very quickly. They wouldn't even walk past her. We had to turn around and go the other way. I thought she was really cool but she does seem scarey to little ones.

In Epcot, I've often found the talking garbage can in future world in the 'electric umbrella restaurant'.
There are also 3 talking water fountains- one is next to mousegear. It was hysterical, I got my ds to take a drink from there & all of a sudden the fountain started talking to him and making 'flushing' noises.

"Push" The trash can is in Tomorrowland in MK. It was funny because the first time I ever saw him, my son and I were wearing our "guest of honor" badges. When we walked by him, he called us by name and blew our minds (till I finally figured it out) :cool1: :cool1:

I read about Push on the DIS and actually bumped into him on our last trip - he made me stop and got the people gathered around to sing Happy Birthday to me... so cool!

Everytime we go on a trip to WDW we always look to experience the new "little" things that make each of our trips unique and memorable.
The last time we went, our favorite things that stand out in our minds are:

*The barbershop quartet singing HB to my son on Mainstreet in MK
*Belle's storytime in MK where my DH was the Beast (our kids' fav. memory)
*Rosie interacting with our kids at MGM, she was HYSTERICAL! and gave my kids each a pin (part of the street entertainment there)
*The funky coral thing outside at the Living Seas at Epcot (reading about DeVine reminded me of that)
*Extra cost involved, but playing WinterSummerland mini golf...we had the BEST time there
*Renting the surry bikes at Boardwalk and our resort= real nice quality family time that is a little slower paced

We always head to Innovations East(I think it's east, I'm terrible with directions!) while waiting out our FP for TT. We love to go in to the plastics presentation where you create and race a robot on the computers. Then you go into another area after and put together a toy robot with pieces made from recycled plastic-yours to keep. You get a neat little souvenir, and it's free. We have about 15 of them so far...

Also, Wes Palm at AK entrance..not really a secret, unless you can find the CM running it..(Look for a guy in a Hawaiin/touristy shirt, sunglasses, carrying a totebag and talking into his hand..) The first time we saw WP a few years back, DH immediately sought out the CM(he loves to dispell the magic, no whimsy wasted on him!!) and walked over to him. told the CM our boys names, and he used them when talking to DS 4 and DS6 (at the time). what a hoot to see the boys eyes open as big as saucers when this palm tree used their names while speaking to them... then when we went this year in March, we saw WP, DH found the CM and CM refused to use the boys' names... :confused3

Here are some of our cool overlooked things we like to do. Some may not be overlooked or unknown, but I thought I'd list some in case others may not know.

MK-
1. The shooting gallery in Frontierland. It costs .50 cents to play. We just found this 3 trips ago. It was an instant family hit. We did it twice this year.
2. Play checkers at one of the shops on main street (it's the one that has kitchen goods in it on the right side as your entering the park). It also has the phone that wasn't working this year. The phone used to play a little skit. The phone was a "party line" from the 50's.
3. Push the talking Trash can in tomorrowland.
4. Taking a picture with goofy on the bench outside of Tony's Town Sq.

AK-
1. Wes Palm - Outside AK entrance. He is a riot.
2. Divine- We didn't get to see her this year.
3. Pet the crocodile at Rafiki's Planet Watch - 2nd year in a row we got to do this. My DS8 loved this.
4. Play the drums in africa

EPCOT-
1. The free segway ride in Innoventions West. We found this for the first time this year.
2. Jr. Chef at the Land -kids didn't want to do it this year.
3. Play on the Viking ship in Norway.
4. Pose for pictures in Mexico with the big hats on.
5. Candy making lady. Both my kids got one this year.
5. Cooling off and trying soda's from around the world at Club Cool.

MGM-
1. Andy Animation - 2nd year in a row we didn't see him making balloon creations at Animation Courtyard. Maybe he doesn't perform in the summer?
2. Picture with the snowman near Christmas Store (Near Mama Melrose).
3. Play a game at Pizza Planet.

subscribing for tomorrow when I am at work...I am too lazy to read it now...

Hula hoop contest at Blizzard Beach for (I think only) the kids! My son won this both times we were there for it and still remembers it even though it's now been nearly 6 years.

Also, when we were there in Jan 2005, we rode Buzz Lightyear several times in a row right at park opening. On the third go round, I had my 3 boys ride together to get a good picture of them at the end. When we went to purchase the picture, we were told that since we were the first family to purchase a picture that day that we got it for free! We got to sign a special "first family" book, and we got our choice of a couple photo options (about $20 each). I wouldn't count on this for sure, but if you're planning on pictures there, it wouldn't hurt to try!

D'Vine is way cool in AK. She is a lady on stilts who looks like a leafy vine, many people don't realize she isn't until she moves.

she's great! i was standing right next to her and she moved and .....well it scared the crap outta me, but i love watching her do it to other people now! lol.
