Crowds were thick at the rope yesterday. However, once we were dispersed, it felt much better. Main Street was slightly crowded later but it wasn’t too bad. I’ve often observed that important events in the outside world don’t seem to effect DL crowds. That was the case with the Super Bowl yesterday: despite that it was going on, crowds were still heavy. I’ve seen the same on Oscars and Grammy days.
I met two groups of girls from Tokyo. My Japanese is limited but it was nice to speak with them… to the extent that I was able J. Some of you may recall that I met two girls last Sunday from Tokyo, one of which was a DL Tokyo CM J.
Did well on Buzz. My first game I scored 1,926,000. The drawback was that, while my score came through, the pic didn’t. It’s always something with that attraction ;-). On my third game I thought I’d scored 2,080,000. When I reached that point, I stopped firing because I didn’t want to risk exceeding 2,097,000 because, as many of you may recall, once you do, your score resets; you lose everything. The good news is that when I got to the photo kiosk, I found that I’d actually scored 2,096,300. One more shot (potentially) and my score would have been lost/reset. On my second gun on the same round I scored 1,131,000. Both were a nice piece of luck.
As I’ve mentioned many times in the past, I always enjoy talking with CMs. I like to ask about their most standout memories of working at the park. Two CMs I met yesterday shared two great anecdotes with me.
I left a bit early yesterday: 1:00, so that I could take a friend’s dog for walk in Griffith Park. He loves going there and I enjoy taking him.
I have park maps if anyone would like a set.
Pics.

- The first: she was working World of Color at DCA when a couple came to her for assistance. The husband was in poor health and confined to a wheelchair. The CM helped them get to a great position for the show and they were exceptionally appreciative. She later learned that the man was dying of cancer, which made their appreciation and happiness matter even more, since she’d recently lost her own father to cancer
- The second: this one is special and I’m surprised I hadn’t heard it elsewhere in recent DL news. A few months ago the CM was working a special event. DL was opened from 4:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. for a select group of guests. She wasn’t told at first what the event was. While working it, she learned that it was setup for a guy to propose to his girlfriend. He went so far as to have his friends dress and act as cleaning staff. She said that it was a lot of fun. I’m sure it was. I can’t imagine what something like that would cost. My guess is that it would run $250,000 at a minimum.
