between beef stew and boneless beef chuck roast?

I want to make a Beef with Red Wine Sauce slow cooker meal (from this month's Southern Living), but all I have is beef stew pieces. Any chance they are basically the same thing?

Thanks!

Go ahead and use what you have. It will be fine. I think the packaged Beef Stew meat it a blend of different cuts of roasts which are to be slow cooked.

As long as you are putting it in a slow cooker (or simmering for several hours) you will be fine. Stew meat can be a bit tougher than other cuts, but will be just fine if it's cooked over a low heat for a long period of time.

Beef stew pieces are most often chuck.
