anyon ever hear this?

Cooking Salmon in a Dishwasher

Needs:

salmon fillets
aluminum foil
a lemon
a few butter pats
electric dishwasher
Place the fish on two large sheets of aluminum foil. Squeeze on some lemon juice and place the pats of butter on the salmon fillets. Seal the fillets well in the foil, and place the foil packet in the top wire basket of your electric dishwasher. DO NOT ADD SOAP OR DETERGENT. Close the dishwasher door, set the dishwasher on the hottest wash cycle, complete with drying cycle, and let it run through a full cycle. When the cycle is complete the fish will be cooked just right.

I've heard of it, but have never tried it. I think I'll stick to grilling it!:p

By all means, GO FOR IT and tell us what you think! :crazy2: Actually, I'd add just a "little" soap for flavor!

YES !!! YES!!! YES!!!

I have done this...It taste great!! Moist and all.. actually any kind of seasoning will work.. I have put pineapple salsa/ bbq/etc sauces on the fish and then cooked in the dishwasher...

I use a double layer of al foil.. although there are those foil camping oven bags, I am going to try those next time.

Great when it is hot and you don't want to turn on the oven or when you have too many things that need to cook in the oven

Farmers almanac of maine........was on the Merv Griffin show a zillion years ago and showed him how to do this......the gentlemans name was Mr. Geiger and his family still runs the Almanac to this day.....I do have a dishwasher and I do love Maine Salmon......landlocked of course......but I will stick to cooking on the grill or in the oven.......

Never heard of it.......but I learn soemthign new on the DIS every day ;)
I'd be afraid the fish would taste soapy or the dishes would smell fishy  (Iknow, I know, no soap and no dishes while cooking).

But seriously, it sounds like a tremendous waste of water and electricity. (JMHO) My dishwasher cycle with the dry cycle takes close to an hour. And it heats the kitchen up more than the oven or stovetop would for cooking fish. But maybe that's just my dishwasher :confused3

I'm with HollyJoy, I'll stick to the grill for fish. :)

Tim Taylor on Home Improvement did this in an episode. As you can imagine it didn't turn out so well.

I cooked Salmon ONCE and will never do it again. Lesson learned that day was NEVER put leftover fish in the garbage disposal!!!

I love Salmon but will just order that when we go out.

With my luck I would have fishy dishes for weeks if I tried to "cook" it in my dishwasher. Ick!!

You can also wrap it up really well, and tuck it in on your car engine. After you've driven a couple of hours going somewhere, it should be done. There was a cookbook out a couple of years ago with different recipies and drive times.

I think it was called a Car-B-Que.

You know ... I always think I'm adventurous and I think I'd try just about anything once, until I read or hear of things like this. No way! :teeth:

Kudos to you who have tried it, you are much braver than I! :teeth:

If I'm ever in a situation where my oven isn't working or something I bet I remember this receipe. It's one of those bits of information that is cool to know even if you never end up using it.

That's the craziest thing I have heard in awhile.

Who came up with that bright idea? I can see it now...

"gee I think I'll cook this piece of Salmon in my dishwasher" LMAO:jumping1:

The thing that occurs to me is that it is so easy to cook salmon in more traditional ways(and it only takes a few minutes). Now, if you could roast a pig in the dishwasher, that would be something!:D

It's rare that my dishwasher is empty, so this method would not be convenient. I can see how it's possible.

I was thinking the same thing about length of time and heating up the kitchen. Plus the fish smell would be all over when the steam came out of the dishwasher. I am not a big fish eater, but since it is wrapped in aluminum foil, what is the advantage of cooking it this way-doesn't it just steam itself, which you could do on a grill or oven?

If I'm gonna eat salmon, I like it planked on the grill.:teeth:

I just tried it and it didn't work at all, it was the biggest mess you've ever seen! Oh geez.......wait a minute...you said dishwasher??!! Gee, maybe that was the problem. I used the washing machine!

PS...anyone have any ideas on how to get that fishy smell out of DH's shorts?
