Is it against the rules to pack some cookies from the buffet and place them in your checked baggage which you will retrieve the morning of debarkation ?

Also, what kinds of cookies do they offer at the buffet ??

Yes. You cannot take any food off the ship which is not commercially packaged and sealed.

Is this the case for all port days or just the last day?

All port days unfortunately. Its funny when you are in The Walt Disney Theater and they announce it, lots of bananas, apples and oranges make appearances from bags.

Most ports do not allow unpackaged foods from off the ship. Some even have sniffer dogs to find those people who think they can get away with it. It can lead to severe fines, or just embarrassment for those caught.

This is not as clear cut as being made out here, many ports do allow it and it is down to those ports, the OP doesn't identify the cruise they are on, Now in Europe in most ports its allowed and positively encouraged by staff, Yes in the USA and Caribbean it is restricted but that is not the case everywhere.

Brent cruise director used to say, Rome is a long day, take food from cabanas for the trip.

We had no restrictions in the Baltic.

WOW! Europe must be the only ones allowing it. I have been on Caribbean, Bahamas, New England, West Coast, and Alaskan and it has never been allowed in any ports visited.
The OP is going on The Hawaiian Cruise I believe.

Yes, it's allowed and actually encouraged there.

Hawaii is very strict about what food and agricultural products they will allow on and off the island. They don't want to import (or export) pests that could disrupt the ecology of the islands.

Yes, they are, they will not allow fruits to be carried off the ship for sure. When we went to Hawaii for our honeymoon, there was another couple on the plane with us and the bride brought her bouquet and they told her she couldn't bring it off the plane with her, she was quite upset, too bad they didn't see it when she boarded the plane in Texas.
The PP poster was speaking of Europe allowing it.

I think as a general rule, you should just plan on bringing only pre-packaged food on and/or off the ship no matter where you go. I don't remember any announcements one way or the other in Norway on whether we could bring unpackaged food off of the ship. We just had our granola bars we brought from home. You can take pre-packaged cereal from Cabanas or the ship store sells the standard Disney snacks, crackers, cookies, chocolate covered raisins, etc.

I haven't cruised DCL yet but I do know that on other ship lots of people take food off the ships. Is it allowed no, do they still do it yes. It's up to you if you want to take the chance or not. I do take cereal boxes off for my kids sometimes and those you are allowed.

Yes, prepackaged foods are typically allowed.

I do tend to take a box of cereals off and some chips if they have any packets up by the food places on the pool deck. That way I have a snack to nibble on (especially fruit loops mmmmm) I have heard you can also ask room service for sealed Crustables but I haven't tried this one

Yes! Order "uncrustables" pb&j sandwiches with breakfast from room service and take with you while in port. Our 2 year old ate those while we ate local street food. Win win

This works in European ports of call.
