Thank you all so much for your ideas so far!

Well Ive given out about 15 invitations so far ( just to the people I know that Ive seen today) that was half of what I was going to invite thinking that about 50% would actually come. Well Ive gotten 14 people who said yes and "can we bring a friend" the other one said she had to check her calendar  I still need to invite several others so Im going to have to really ramp up my plans.

I need some appetizers and any other ideas you can think of! HELP!

What kind of appetizers are you looking for?

When having family gettogethers I have seen:

Shrimp Cocktail

Cocktail Sausages
2 cans (8oz) Crescent rolls
48 cocktail sized sausage/hot dogs
Ketchup
Mustard
Pickle Relish

Heat oven to 375º, separate both cans of dough into 16 triangles. Cut each triangle lengthwise into thirds. Place sausage on shortest end, roll-up to opposite point. Place on ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake at 375º for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown, switching position of cookie sheets 1/2 way through. Serve warm with ketchup, mustard and pickle relish for dipping. (You could probably use BBQ sauce too).

Taco Dip
1 can re-fried beans
1 cup mayo
1 cup sour cream
1 pkg. taco season
Black olives, chopped small
Tomato, chopped small
Onion, chopped small
1 bag of shredded sharp cheese
Tostitos chips

Mix together mayo, sour cream and taco season. Spread on a platter. Spread on the re-fried beans, add the olives, tomato, and onion, than sprinkle cheese on top. (Best if made the day before, to let the flavors combine).

Don't have a name for this one
1 can chili (with or without beans)
1 block of Velveeta Mexican Cheese ( mild, medium or hot, your choice)
Tostitos chips

Put in a microwave safe bowl and microwave until melted, stirring 1/2 way through.

Also a cheese, bologna and cracker platter, or a veggie and dip platter.

Recipe for our favorite dip
1 container (8 oz) sour cream
2/3 cups mayo
1 Tbsp. parsley flakes
2 Tbsp. minced onion
2 Tbsp. dill weed
1 tsp. seasoning salt

Mix all ingredients together and chill. (Best when made the day before).

The recipe sounds weird, but believe me they taste awesome! I get lots of compliments on these, and they're super easy to make.

Sweet n Sour Meatballs

1 bag of frozen meatballs (I usually use Sams or Costco)
1 large jar Welch's Grape Jelly (don't use the generic stuff - it doesn't taste as good!)
1 bottle Heinz Chili Sauce

In large pot, mix the jelly and chili sauce together, simmer until the jelly is melted and it's a thin sauce consistency. Add meatballs, let simmer for a couple of hours, until meatballs are hot. I usually use a pot to heat the sauce, then put the meatballs in my electric roaster pan, then pour the sauce over the meatballs and let cook at 200 degrees for a couple of hours. It's delish!

Here are some ideas:

Easy:

Cheese Ball & crackers
Veggies & Ranch Dip
Sweet & Sour Meatballs - recipe from ChrisnSteph
Sweet & Sour cocktail franks - use same recipe as ChrisnSteph
Brownies or cookies

Do you have a Costco? They have several hors d'oeurves that you can buy in the freezer and just heat up.

What about a cold cut stromboli:

take dough (risen) and spread out

Take coldcuts such as ham, salami, pepperoni, and white american cheese
and place in in a row across the dough (use many pieces of each cold cut to your liking)

Wrap and fold dough so no cold cuts are showing (pinch edges if need to)

Take a little olive oil and brush the top of the dough once its all rolled up and sprinkle a little garlic powder on top.

Bake at 350 until dough is golden brown.

Cut into slices when its done cooking

Its really good.

yum! those are great ideas!
Thank you!
Oh Costco! Good idea too!

Im excited! Everyone seems so happy about it :)

So this weekend will be devoted to getting things done aroiund the house ( new storm door installed new curtains finally installed!) and then next weekend ( after Black Friday shopping of course) will be decorating! :)

YAY :)

Thanks again!!

Keep those ideas coming!

Finger sandwiches, our grocery store makes cute small rolls slice them and serve egg salad, tuna salad on them.

How about bruschetta?

Maybe an olive tray.

Can I come?

Here's a bruschetta recipe that I make that everyone loves. Finely chop about a pint of strawberrries. Thinly slice a loaf of French bread and spread lightly with butter. Spoon strawberries over the butter, and lightly dust with granulated sugar. Put in the broiler until the sugar melts and the edges of the bread are toasted. Watch carefully! Thes can burn. Remove from oven and serve warm. They are wonderful!

Of course! :)

Everyone is invited! :)

Acutally, I think my calendar might be booked that day. But, are you asking for recipes with the cookies? I am looking for a good recipe for a swap I am going to on the 22nd.

We have a blast at the swap we go to. We drink a lot of wine, make great conversation and go home with a boat-load of cookies. My family loves it!

mickeyboat - how about these for your cookie exchange - I posted this on Binny's other thread about cookie exchanges:

I made these this weekend, kind of to test out the recipe, as I needed something for my DD's cast party and a church bake sale. They were absolutely delicious. And, the bonus - they were incredibly easy.

I happen to have a pastry bag and the right tips, but if you don't I would think a little "dallop" of frosting would suffice - and only you would know that it called for a star tip dallop of frosting.

Mint Petites

¼ cup sugar
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, room temperature
About a dozen foil wrapped rectangular chocolate mints (such as Andes)
¼ to ½ teaspoon peppermint extract
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups bleached or unbleached flour
½ cup Pillsbury milk chocolate frosting supreme

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

In a large bowl, beat sugar and butter with mixer until light and fluffy.
Add peppermint extract and vanilla; blend well. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. Add to dough and stir in, mixing well, using hands if necessary.

Shape dough into ½- to ¾-inch balls.

Place on ungreased cookie sheets; flatten slightly.

Bake in preheated oven 10 to 12 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool 1 minute, then remove from cookie sheets onto brown paper. Cool completely.

Unwrap chocolate mints; cut mint in half crosswise, then diagonally in half to form small triangles.

Frost cookies using a pastry bag with star tip. Top each with chocolate mint triangle so it stands up. Makes 3½ dozen.

(Just a couple of notes - I made a double batch, and would have needed just over a can of frosting, except, we just had the remaining 8 at home without the frosting/mints. It was harder than I thought it would be to cut the mints, and we only used 1/2 mint on each cookie instead of 1/4 of a mint. And my last comment - if you need to make a bunch (i.e. many dozens) make and bake the cookies now, and they will easily freeze. Take them out the night before you actually need to decorate them. The frosting and the mint part takes hardly any time at all.)

Have fun at your exchange!
