Convo with DH :) Conversion in process!

So when we went this summer, it was with a reluctant DH. He's never been into theme parks, crowds or heat at all, so he certainly never wanted to do Disney, but he knew the kids wanted to, so... he agreed to it. It was going to be a one and done trip.


Well there were so many things we never had a chance to do, and the kids ask on a very frequent basis to go back, so he has agreed to do another trip, with our anticipated return date being summer 2017. He was actually surprisingly agreeable to it, and said he wants to stay even longer next time!

So, tonight, just kinda joking, it came up and I said, "Well really, we have to do at least two more trips. I want to get another one in when the kids are young, but then, we have to go back in 2021 or 2022, when they have Star Wars Land and Pixar Land done, to see those!"

And all he did was roll his eyes and smile! I know those of you with Disney-reluctant spouses will understand my pleasure at this. In the words of old Steve Urkel... "I'm wearing you down, baby!" You cannot resist the magic of Disney!

I guess I forgot. It's "supposed" to be '17 for Avatarland, '18 for Toy Story and '19 for SWL, or something like that right? I'm guessing if it's all open by '19 it'll still be '20 or '21 as DH wants to do a cross-country trip in the next few years, too. I figure '17 Disney, '19 Canada, '21 Disney is a good compromise!

I am gradually convincing DH as well. He thought 2010 would be a one and done for the two of us empty nesters. I convinced him to go again in 2014 by dangling a day at Busch Gardens, a couple of days at Sea World and the new Diagon Alley at Universal. New Fantasyland wasn't going to cut it but since we were going to Orlando, lets take a couple of weeks and start at WDW. He did like Food & Wine in 2010 so that helped convince him.

He loved the movie Avatar so I have him convinced that 2018 would be a good time to go, keeping with the every four years thing. When Star Wars was announced I started hinting at "one more visit"...

The other day, he suggested Orlando as a location for or snowbird Condo when we retire and I nearly fell off my chair.

ETA: Two of our children live in California so I usually manage to get one day at the two parks there every now and then.

Yes, I know DH wants to do some "non-Disney" things on the next trip too. He really wanted to go to Sea World this time around and we didn't. We also wanted to do Discovery Cove. He also wanted more days to just relax in the rental house and lounge in the pool all afternoon, lol.

So... yup, he's 100% on board. We talked this weekend that we're going to a) skip vacation this summer (we talked about doing a week away somewhere) and just do a couple local long weekend get aways so we can save for Disney in 2017 b) we agreed that we're going to put the deposit down on the rental house this coming summer (it already has bookings into 2017) and c) I caught him on his phone tonight looking up Orlando attractions... LOL

So... we leave in 545 days!

Excellent Padawan mshanson. However "Orlando attractions" is not the droid he should be looking for. Your work to become a Jedi must continue until he's searching for "Victoria & Alberts ADR."

DH was not the fan that DS and I were. He does really like not having to drive on vacation. So he enjoys Magical Express and using Disney transportation. This year, we did KTTK and he realized more of the back stories, details and magic. So he's coming around.

Haha, I know! But, I figure, it's a good start! He's definitely looking forward to SWL at HS, but we still have a few years for that one, lol.

When DH and I started dating, he liked Disney but he was not into Disney. Then I came along and changed his mind... We both were married before, and each have a DD. We spent our 1st Christmas together at MK with the girls it was just for the day, we all lived in FL back then. It was a wonderful way to spend Christmas Day and no added pressure for us or the girls. We had a super fun time, and made it to park closing. DH said that night I never realized how much fun it is, and really everything that there is to do. We even did the land and sea for our honeymoon, and it was his idea... and I did all the planning of course.

Now if I could just convince him to fly down, instead of drive, but I know I'll lose that battle based on a) finances (definitely cheaper for us to drive) and b) his own "issues" with flying, lol. I figure I'm actually getting him there (again), I won't rock the boat!

That is great news! I know I would be super excited to see my hubby checking out Orlando attractions on his phone! Well done!

I think it has probably helped him come around too since you spend other years doing other things on vacation.
