We've never eaten here and it's not a great deal for DDP, but it's convenient to eat in DHS so we booked it. It's me, DH and 2 DS, 6 and 9. None of us, except DH, like veggies, and I'm afraid they will give us a hard time. Also, how's the food, atmosphere, selection, etc. ? Right now, it's our only new place, and I want to be sure we'll like it. Any reviews, good or bad, will help us. Thanks in advance! :flower3:

I'm sorry but I don't love this place. I know that there are people that swear by it, but I am a non-veggie lover and I really don't like to be haggled about eating them. :confused3 And the last time I ate there, I noticed an odd smell. Sorta like my grandmother's house (maybe a combination of pledge and Murphy's oil soap?). I didn't find the odor very appetizing.

Why is it not a good deal for DDP?

I know that you want to be talked INTO keeping your ADR, but your post sounded like you really wanted both sides of the story.

IMO 50's Primetime Cafe is a fun place to eat. We didn't eat there on our trip last year, but we ate there on our 2 trips prior and really liked it. We booked it for this year's trip & I am really looking forward to it. The atmosphere is great: your table is like a kitchen table/setting from the 50's - all of the decor is from the 50's. The servers are usually "in character" and will refer to themselves as your aunt, uncle, etc. I don't ever remember the server going overboard and really hounding anyone in my party to eat their vegetables. From what I remember the food is pretty good - it's not 5 star gourmet food, but it's typical food that your mom would cook: pot roast, meat loaf, chicken, etc. My DW loves the S'mores dessert at 50's. I'm sure there will be posts from those who don't like 50's & that's fine, but I think it's at least worth a try. Who knows - you may or may not like it - but it's worth going to form your own opinion.

We love it there too and are planning on going back this year during our Oct. trip. I don't remember anyone bothering us at all about what we ate or didn't eat. The food is very good in my opinoin. ITs definitely like home cooked food. You get an absoute TON of food, so I would suggest sharing with someone. You'll never in a million years finsih it all. And the onion rings are great and the desserts are huge and delicious too. I say keep it. We always have it as one of our ts meals on the ddp.

I have eaten at all of the DHS restaurants many many times before and it's really the only one I'll go back to. I almost refuse to eat at groddy buffets to begin with so H&V is out, plus when I did eat there when I was a teenager, I didn't like it. Mama Melrose is like a normal Ristorante Italino that you'd find at home only with average service at best. Brown Derby is pretty good but it'll eat up 2 TS credits and again, still not spectacular. It's the best restaurant for the Fantasmic dinner dealy thing though. Sci-Fi isn't bad either but like Mama Melrose, nothing great, like something you could get back home also.

Why I love 50s? It's good, service is above average and service at a restaurant is key to me, the food is good. Like mom's-home-cooking type fare. I love the Pot Roast there more than anything. It is on the less expensive side but honestly if you base all you ADRs off the most you can get with your buck, you're going to find yourselves going out of the way to go somewhere else, or not necessarily enjoying what you got simply because it cost more. :confused3 IMO, go for the experience rather than price tag.

We dont LOVE 50's prime time. :confused3 I guess when I am on vacation I am not interested in eating stuff that we eat at home all the time. Since I am a "cook" and a stay at home mom. Fried Chicken and potroast are normal everyday food around here. I like something a little more interesting.

The food was OK.. the service was OK the atmosphere was great.. but I think it was lost on my kids (then they were 4 and 11) who had no idea what was going on.

We love going there. As a matter of fact, we had an Intimate Disney wedding and went there as our after wedding luncheon with the whole crew. I was hoping they would give the newbies a harder time than they did because we had a bunch of fun people with us. We always have a blast there. Wouldn't miss it.

Have you ever thought about taking the boat to the Boardwalk area? There are tons and TONS of good places to eat just outside of DHS. For our September trip we didn't even book any DHS restaurants, we've booked Beaches and Cream, Yachtsman Steakhouse, Captain's Grille AND Spoodles. All in the Boardwalk Area! And all just 15-20 minutes from DHS!

If I could recommend anything though, especially with kids it's Beaches and Cream!!!

We may have went on an off day but the food was HORRIBLE...yuck. I am not picky by any means but the food was inedible. I keep reading how good everyone says it is on here so I almost want to give it a second chance...just don't know if i can. All the other restaurants were great that we went to.

We loved it and are going again in Sept!!!! Fried Chicken and Pot Roast was great!!!!

Those were our feelings about it too. I had read lots of reviews on here about how much people loved it but we thought it was just ok.

We love it and will be going back for the third time this August. One suggestion though. Make a reservation during the prime meal times. Last time DD and I had an early reservation (4 p.m.?) The place was empty. We had a great waitress who was very friendly. We invited her to sit down and chat with us and had a great conversation. However, due to the fact that we were the only ones there, there was no "show". The previous time we got the whole "show" and thought it was a riot! I think the food is fine -- nothing fancy but the combination of the food, the "show" and the atmosphere is a definite winner!:cool1:

I would say you've got to try it at least once to get your own opinion of the place. :thumbsup2

We also don't love 50's PT. In fact, my husband flat out refuses to eat there again. I'm personally willing to go back because the food isn't bad and there aren't a lot of choices for CS at DS. They really gave my dh a hard time because he so obviously didn't want the attention. It was bad. I agree with a previous poster, it was way beyond my dd's level. :confused3

We liked it and had an excellent server (Patty!) who really paid attention to my DS. No one forced us to eat veggies. It was the first place my DD asked to return to this year--and she's only 5, so she has no clue about the decor.

I agree with those saying to try it once. The pickins are slim at DHS anyway.

And if you don't like veggies, maybe this is a good place for you to try. I thought I HATED collard greens until I was forced to eat them at PTC. I love them now, and it was Uncle Mark who converted me! Now I always get a double order :)

My husband doesn't eat vegetables at all. When we eat at the 50s, he either asks for fries as a substitute or asks for them to be left off entirely. If he gets any word from the server (always friendly, of course), he says that it would be a total waste to put them on his plate so he's doing everyone a favor by letting them for someone else to eat. We really like the food there and alternate between the Sci Fi and 50s.

Keep the reservation, go and just don't get the vegetables. Leave them in the kitchen for someone who will eat them.

If you're afraid of getting a hard time you probably shouldn't go. You never know if you'll be "picked on" or not but if it would make you uncomfortable if you are then why take the chance?

The last time we went I was the victim and the kids had a lot of fun watching Dad get "punished" and having to sing "I'm a Little Teapot". If that doesn't sound fun then skip it.

I think the food is good if you enjoy comfort food but not anything special. I like the food at the Brown Derby, Mama Melrose and Sci Fi better but that is just me.

We love the fried chicken, you can order it with just white meat and they bring you 2 breasts and a wing. The smores are to die for and the alcoholic drinks are the best!

We are going back next week.

It is a must do each trip. We happen to like the atmosphere and being forced to eat a few veggies isn't going to kill us! LOL! I don't know what the DDP has to do with it. You shouldn't worry about whether you are getting every dollar you can out of it. Just go and enjoy.

We plan to go here for the first time in September. All I can say is if the collard greens come with the fried chicken, then I am in. Just hope DS can handle it. He tends to be shy, especially at those late teen ages. :lmao:
