I bought a 35 pt April at BWV, and then added a 100 pt bwv Sept UY

I have 2 different contracts with different use years, and it works well for us, as we like to go twice a year. It actually makes it a little easier for me to keep track of.

Don't worry!! There's no real need to have the same Use Years (although I do, because my add-ons were through Disney and they automatically give you the same Use Year) as long as you keep up with all of your banking deadlines, you'll be fine!!

You will probably have to use your once a year transfer to move the left over points from one contract to another to get a full night. You can't combine these two contracts to get a single night at your resort. Like 15 from one and 15 from another to make the 30 points needed for one night.

Hmm can you explain that to me further? I have 35 pts April UY and 100 Sept UY. I will probably have some of the 35 pts left as it is such a small number. SO say I use 33 of those ( 3 night studio stay @ 11pt night), then I should transfer the other 2 to the 100 pt? So in other words, seperately I cannot combine to use 135 points towards a booking?

That's correct. If you need 33 for three nights, you can make a reservation for those nights using that contract. You can transfer the other two points over to the second contract or bank them for next year (but if you bank them, you can't transfer the points the next year). You can use the 100 points to make a reservation for additional nights. But without transferring the two points, they can't be used for a reservation because there is no DVC villa that can be reserved for 2 points a night.

We have a smaller 50 point contract that I usually transferred points from or to to use them every year.

Technically that's correct but it's not been that way in the past with multiple contracts of a single owner. DVC has routinely allowed a member to "transfer" banked or borrowed points and to allow this when you've already used your one transfer a year. It remains to be seen what will be allowed going forward but this is the way it's worked in the past in spite of how the rules are written. This is done on a case by case basis but the situation described (needing to make that last night but not having enough points in one contract) is exactly the situation it's been allowed. The other circumstance is where one wants to do an exchange (DCL, DC, CC, ?II) where all points must be in one contract.

For the contracts described, it would generally be better if they were all under one master and one use year. But it should not be an issue to use them together and given they are the same home resort, it really should be very easy. Assuming DVC were to be hard line on the rules going forward, the easiest way to do this would be to reserve some nights on one contract and other nights with the other contract and link them. At most you should have to borrow only a relatively few points each time with good planning. Of course you could bank and borrow and use one contract for one trip and another for the other but IMO that is a much riskier approach. And lastly, you could transfer all points to the other contract with the direction of transfer being determined by when your trip was as well as the presence of banked or borrowed points in a given contract and assumes you don't need the transfer for other reasons.

I just called MS about two weeks ago to try to get some things changed. The CM started to suggest moving points from one contract to another, then stopped herself by saying "Oops, you've already used your one transfer this year, so that won't work."

As I noted, it's handled on a case by case basis. Generally they've only allowed extra flexibility when it's the only way to makes something work such as to combine points for that last night when you wouldn't be able to reserve or for things where they all have to be in one contract as I mentioned above. And I'd suspect it'll vary from CM to CM as well. I can tell you it's happened within the last few months several times.

We have 2 different use years and never have a problem with it. We've also never transferred points from one contract to the other. Instead we think of having two master contracts as a bonus which allows us two transfers in per year. (I can't imagine transferring points out...we're always in serious point deficit!)

We plan to have 2 master contracts (eventually-gotta pay of the first one though). They will be for different resorts and very likely have a diffferent UY. Our plan is to size each contract with the same number of points and then........when the time comes...... deed them to our 2 sons for them to use with their families.

Of course, in the meantime, we will just have to suffer with 2 contracts..... oh, the misery.......
