Hi everyone!
I'm pretty new to posting, but have been lurking for a long time. I love reading everyone's comments on the different resorts. Here's my deal:

I'm taking a trip with two friends in May  and had my heart set on staying at Port Orleans Riverside. Because one of us lives in Florida, we can take advantage of the resident rate. When she called yesterday to apply the rate to our existing reservation, Riverside was not available for our dates, just French Quarter. We decided to switch to save the money, but I am starting to regret that decision...

So what, in your opinion, is better about POFQ than POR? I really need you to sell it! :earboy2:

I just wanna know if I can play croquet in the rectangular courtyards at POFQ???

/never stayed there, just walked down from POR

I've stayed at both within the last two years, and while I prefer POR for some reasons, POFQ has great things about it as well.

It's all very centrally locoated, you're never far from anything. The themeing is nice, and the food court isn't bad. If I had the choice to stay cheaper at POFQ I'd take it in a heartbeat.

If you have any specific questions, don't hesitate to PM me. It makes me feel special! :earboy2:

I think of it all as one big resort. We stayed at POFQ last year and loved it. We stayed one night in January at the Mansions in POR and found very little different about the room. Both were wonderful, clean, bright, newly rehabbed. Just think of POFQ as an extension of the Mansions and you should enjoy. POR is only a hop, skip and a jump, ok maybe two skips, but you get the idea. :smooth:

I've stayed at both and while I liked both, we prefer POFQ. The rooms sizes are about the same. POFQ is much smaller and you are never a far walk to anything- bus stop, food court, etc.
Also, the resorts share buses and POFQ is always picked up first (meaning you always have a seat) and dropped off first leaving the parks. Much better as far as that goes. Also, POFQ has BEIGNETS for breakfast- yummy! Both are very similar- but we like the smallness of POFQ- helps with my children's small legs- and my tired ones at the end of the day! princess:

mmm BEIGNETS. There's the scale tipper.LOL I'm afraid DW is going to not like AKL this year because she won't be able to get her beignets like last year. :smooth:

we were the other way round I could get POR at a discounted rate for the full duration of my stay or POFQ for half, but because my heart is set on the FQ I have bitten the bullet and will stump up the extra $$$$ and hope I can get more nights discounted.... isn't it great that we all love different things about the same place

I've just booked airfare for our trip, and would like to stay at either POR or POFQ. I know almost nothing about them, other than what I've read here. It sounds like POFQ is smaller. What do you like about POR? Is there a particular area to request? It'll just be my husband and myself.

Many thanks.

Thanks for the replies! I do like the fact that POFQ is smaller and the beignets sound yummy :) Being first on and off the busses is a plus, too. I guess I just liked the theming of POR better. If we end up staying at POFQ, we'll for sure make it a point to see what we are missing at POR.

That is one thing we are all looking forward to - checking out many of the different resorts. We didn't have time to do any of that on our last trip. I am
most excited to check out the Grand Floridian because I will be staying there for work conference the second week of June. :cool1:

When I'm considering similar resorts (BC vs YC, Swan vs Dolphin, POR vs POFQ) I'll always go for the resort that has the better discount available.

I'll even consider a different resort if available discounts dictate. I wanted to stay at an EPCOT resort but wound up getting a deeply discounted rate at the POLY and had a great stay.

In this case it's easy, more people seem to prefer POFQ because of it's smaller and more compact.

POFQ is the best! Also, in the morning, the bus to the MK goes straight there-no sharing and on the way back we got dropped off first. I was really blown away by the beauty of this resort. The rooms are the prettiest we've had at Disney. We had beignets right after we checked in! We couldn't wait for breakfast. The pool area was just okay, You may want to head over to POR one day to explore and use their pool (they are sister resorts and this is allowed). They also have sit-down rest. at POR. I think you made a wise decision. You will get to enjoy both resorts!

My family was just at POFQ in February and absolutely loved it. We walked over the POR and spent some time looking around the resort. My kids even swam in the pool there (you can - they are SISTER resorts.). So don't think since you're staying at POFQ that you can't enjoy POR. Part of the fun was taking the boat over for dinner at POR. The size of POFQ makes it more relaxing (IMO). The cobblestone paths, the foliage - awesome. Loved the sound of the carriage coming down the path - the horse steps on the cobblestone - charming. Stay at POFQ knowing you are staying at a great resort and still enjoy the grandeur of POR.

EITHER WAY HAVE A GREAT VACATION.
