Converting Park Hoppers to APs

I know this has been addressed before, but I just want to make sure I have it right. We are planning on buying 7 day park hoppers for Paramount for our June trip. We have never gone in the summer before and are a little apprehensive about the heat. If it isn't too bad, we'd like to exchange our park hoopers for APs at the end of the trip so we can go next year (just a week earlier). Am I correct that the full price we paid for our tickets will be applied to the APs even if we have already used some of the days? Am I also correct that if we use any of the plus options, we will only be permitted to upgrade to PAPs? It is likely that only a few members of our party will go to the water parks -- if they do, should we have them pay separately and save the plus options so that we can exchange for APs (or save them for next trip). Or, can we just pay for the water park days at the time we exchange for APs and not have to buy PAPs? Thanks.

Yes as long as you do the upgrade within the first 7 days of use of the ticket. If you upgrade after the first 7 days, you will only get credit for the remaining unused major park admissions.

Correct

You can do that.

Nope, you can't do that.

Keep in mind too that if you upgrade within the first 7 days of use, that your AP expiration date will be backdated to the first day of use of the PHP tickets. It may make more sense for you to just upgrade them right from the start before using them at all. That way when you do go to a water park, you can all take advantage of the $4 discount on adult water park tickets ($3 on child) that AP holders get.
