Ok...so I just called MS to ask her how to convert 2 cruise reservations (currently held w/cash deposit) to points. She explained it but I'm still confused (I'm a visual learner...that and she was impatient :) ) Please help. My understanding is that I have to:

1. Call Disney Cruise Line first, ask them to bring up my 2 separate ressies and inform them that I would like to have DVC take over these ressies.

2. Call MS (Disney Cruise Department) back, inform them that I've contacted DCL.

3. MS will then call DCL and take over the ressies. (Am I on the phone at this time?)

4. MS will then charge the DCL ressies to my account. I get to keep my current staterooms.

5. Taxes per person are INCLUDED in the points per person listed on the point chart.

6. I am charged $95 at the time of the transaction, regardless of how many reservations I "convert" to pay by points.

7. I am also charged at this time for any additional persons (i.e., my child) that I don't want to cover with points.

Is that right? I just want to make sure because I calculated everything for my points usage for this year and I can't afford to make a mistake...Thanks!!

Maybe I can help a little.....you seem to have most of it down pact. Kudos!

Have a great vacation!!

They will place you on hold while they call.

Yes

one fee of $95 (per vacation, essentially)

7. I am also charged at this time for any additional persons (i.e., my child) that I don't want to cover with points.

Yes, in full at the time of conversion AND you will be paying the DVC rate (which I believe is slightly discounted) but likely won't be the same rate that you booked at (usually a little higher).

Thanks so much for the explanation! I had no idea that I'd get to pay less for my child than the standard DCL rate. That's awesome! :cool1:

You'll also be paying MORE most likely by using the points instead of keeping the cash reservation. If you value the points at $10 each, figure out how much your points reservation (with higher costs for booking/changing etc.) would be compared to the cash reservation you already have.

You can rent out the points needed to pay for the cruise yourself (or use a board sponsor to help you) or do a transfer to a fellow DVC member. All easy options to save $ on your cruise.

Hi again! I just want to clarify what I was trying to say. The cash rate for the child passenger that you pay through DVC may be a little higher than what you booked at through Disney Cruiseline. But, who knows, maybe it will be the same or less!!! Sorry if what I typed mislead you!

This is correct. In the past there have been times when the child cash rate via DVC is the same or less than DCL. You will find out when calling MS to arrange the transaction (or call sooner). It is, of course, depending upon the cruise date, the age of child, etc.

Good luck with your plans! :)

Gosh I hope it's less...more $$ to spend on points :rotfl:

Hmmm....can someone pls tell me of the board sponsor? This may benefit us at some point. Thanks!
