awhile back I saw a way to do this for free. Does anybody know? I want to print a photo as a line drawing and use it for a water color. I don't want to purchase photo shop to do it.

If you have Kodak photo software, there is an option under "Fun Effects" called "Coloring Book" that does what you are describing. If you don't have it and would like me to do it, PM me. I can send you my e-mail address, you can send me the picture, I can add the effect and send it back to you. The watercolor sounds like a neat idea!

Okay, if you have a recent version of Microsoft Word, or Open Office, on your computer, this is worth trying (though all of you graphic geeks are going to laugh at it):

Copy the picture to your clipboard. Open Word and paste the picture in. Then, right click on the picture and choose Format Picture from the menu that opens up.

Then you want to reset the color, contrast, and brightness options till you get something more like a line drawing. Start by setting the color to grayscale or black and white, then start pushing the contrast slider up and down.

Not as good as a graphics program, but a cheap workaround!

Download Gimp and I believe it has these options.

Gimp is an open source, free program designed like photoshop.
