convention type tickets and no FP+ until arrival

Hi all,

My daughter's dance team is competing in Disney over MLK Jr weekend in January. We ordered convention type tickets through the UDA/UCA organizations running the competitions (4 day hoppers which includes admission to the 3 days of competitions at ESPN Wide World Of Sports)

I was originally under the impression that I could order these tickets and link them to my My Disney Experience 72 hours after purchase, even though I can not actually get the physical tickets until we arrive in Disney.

I am now finding out this is not true, I can not link the tickets until I have them in hand at which point I can then make FP+ reservations.

Tell me I'll still be able to get some kind of FP+ at that late point I'm so bummed out that I can't make advance reservations and I'm afraid by the time we arrive and try to get some FP+ there will be nothing worth getting FP+ for.

I am interesting in if someone has an answer for you. My daughter's dance team is visiting next May, but they are doing the youth dance program with a workshop. I was told by her studio that we had to pay as a group together and then we would get our tickets after wards. I am so bummed because the dance studio due date for tickets is after our 60 days fastpass+ booking day. I am also afraid that there will be no FP+ available for us for the rides we really wanted to get scheduled.

I bailed on the UDA tickets....I requested a refund of the convention tickets and went ahead and bought regular Disney tickets. Kills me to pay more money for them (plus now I will have to pay for the admission to the competition itself) but I can get my FP+ reservations now. If it were going to be a slower weekend, I might have just taken my chances but MLK weekend is supposed to be busy, and it was pretty busy when we went last year too.

You can link them! I'm going for a gymnastics competition and was told tickets would be mailed to me. I called disney and gave them my purchase information and they manually linked them to my account.

I tried a bunch of times with Disney and they said it was a no go I gave them all the purchase info and they said unfortunately none of the numbers were working

Oh no so sorry to hear this! I guess it makes sense then to bail given how busy MLK weekend is and how in demand fastpasses are. I'm going to be there right after you (18-22) and was able to make FP reservations today- there was still a decent amount of FEA, 7DMT, and TSMM left. Good luck!

Seems crazy they couldn't do that for you- did you buy through a Disney Sports event page for your daughter's event? I did that and didn't get any information I could put in at all (it gave me an error), but when I called a cast member they said sports tickets do this all the time and he knew a way to get them to show up. I wonder if it was just luck of the draw- I feel like lately it really all depends on what CM you get when you call. Sorry you had to deal with that!
