Convention Tickets

I ended up buying park tickets from ebay. They are brand new and unused. They came directly from Disney. After I got the tickets I find out that these are convention tickets. Will I have any problems using them at the parks? If you call Disney, they say you will need to show some sort of convention ID, which I will not have.

So I have 2 questions:
Will I be able to get into the parks?
Will I be in jeopardy of having Disney take the tickets away from me if I'm not on a convention?

The tickets say that they are valid for 10 days from first usage and have to be used before December 30, 2005.

I've never been asked to show ID with convention tickets, but I've been asked what convention I'm attending.

What if I dont know what convention they were bought for or if the convention is going on a month after I'm there?

I fully expect the OP will be able to use the tickets without repercussions from Disney, however the OP's purchase experience has already given ample reason why one shouldn't purchase tickets from eBay. The OP is now expecting to be able to enter Disney using tickets which they essentially have no right to be using.

As for the tickets being new and unused -- how do you know? Something else to think about.

Hopefully they aren't expired. Many tickets for special events such as conventions have limitations, such as an expiration date or a time limit. Check the back of the ticket and see if it's a Comp ticket, or if it has an expiration date.

This is the risk you run when you purchase from a non-reputable company. E-Bay is not a reputable vendor, it's just the public selling to the pubic. Unfortunately, buyer beware.

Convention tickets are also sold to family members of attendees as well as exhibitors. Those people won't necessarily have convention ID with them.

If you're paranoid get a list of conventions that are going on when you're there and just say your spouse is with that convention. I guess you could just say something ambiguous like my spouse is attending some medical meeting, I'm certainly not wasting my Disney time attending any of those worthless cocktail parties and banquets. Believe me the CM isn't going to take the time to ask for ID.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Did you really buy them straight from Disney? On ebay?
I know they came from Disney because they were shipped directly from Disney. There was a reciept from Disney with the price paid (lower than I paid to ebay-of course)
I even called them with the reservation# that was on the paper. I asked what plan these were bought under and I was told it was for a convention. However they could not tell me what convention they were bought for. I hope they didnt void my tickets because I called.

It doesnt say Comp ticket. The expairation date is 12/30/05. It is good for 10 days from first usage.

Where could I get a list of the conventions that are going on when I'm there?

I like your idea of the spouse thing, I guess my wife and I will just have to go thru different turnstiles. I dont think your suggestion would work too well if we all go in as a family. LOL

Go to the Orange County Convention Center Event Calendar to see what's happening there. As you'll see from the calendar, it's going to be fairly hard not to find a convention happening. If that doesn't turn up something to your liking (maybe the Barbizon Modeling Center Graduation just isn't "you") -- perhaps Google convention and Orlando to see what else might come up.

I don't think you will have any problems. My husband has a convention and we will be buying 2 day hoppers for $111 each.(With one Plus Feature.) I will probably be going to the parks without him and will not have a convention ID. I don't anticipate any problems. Nothing in the convention literature says anything about needing a convention ID to use the tickets. They do expire 10 days after first use and do expire 12/31/05. (I emailed the ticket people.) We can oreder them and have them shipped or pick them up at the convention, so I'm sure some of them will show up on eBay!!!

I have used convention tickets numerous times before.... even though I was not attending a convention at Disney at the time. I have never been asked for ID or asked what convention I was attending. I don't think that you will have any problems at all. You should check the expiration date though. They are usually printed on the last line on the back of the plastic ticket. I also think that they expire 10 or 14 days after the first use. These tickets are usually a great deal because they also let you get into Pleasure Island or Disney Quest too!!! :earsboy:

My whole family used convention tickets in May. We were never asked what convention we were attending, etc. These were hopper passes, so we used them at all the parks plus Disney Quest. I know several other people who have used the convention tickets as well and they didn't have a problem either. These were purchased from eBay as well and were issued directly from Disney. Don't worry about it. You shouldn't have any problems. Enjoy your trip!
