Not sure if this strategy has been posted here before, thought i'd post jik it might be helpful to anyone else in the future

I've been struggling to plan 1st trip to DL last week in June, 1st week in July. Family really wanted to stay onsite, unfortunately way out of our budget range ($300+ night for standard rooms @ DLH). Our next pick, HoJos in all likelihood wouldn't offer Ent. rates during the time frame either; best rate I could find was $120+ night for park view.

Kept digging and found out that the ALA (american libarary assoc) would be in town those 2 weeks. I joined up (yes, i was qualifed to do so as a past volunteer @ local library); registered for exhibits only participation and am receiving a "run of the house" rate @ DL of $175+ a night. :dance3: :cheer2:

AAA didn't have rates for 7 nights either, so even factoring in the fees for conference had to pay to join; i believe i'm getting a heck of a deal @ the DL Hotel:

Rack $310 X 7 = $2,100
Convention Rate (including membership & registration) = $1,292

or 49% discount if i'm doing the math correctly

Congrats!
That is an awesome rate for that time of year. Now your planning begins...have fun:)

Thanks, think it was a windfall:wizard: , i'm so excited about finally getting to see where it all began:goodvibes

You scored! Don't forget to add that pesky resort fee.

michael, michael, motorcycle - she shoots & scores! Go Pens:cheer2:

umm, i'm afraid to ask how much the resort fee is - per day?

is it the type that represents parking, etc. that you can "ask" to have removed or is it one of those inflexible ones?

online confirmation I received says $175, maybe it'll include tax:laughing: greedy piggie i am

Resort fee is $10 + 15% tax = $11.50 a night. Unfortunately, it's one of those inflexible fees that aren't removed. Congrats on your great rate though.

thanks for the info:thumbsup2 shall add it to the budget.

Even thou it's run of house, i might get lucky on room assignment...

Based on comments i've read here, have asked for Sierra Tower, upper floor pool view (figuring park view would be out of the question during such a busy time) --

is it a good choice?

do i have a snowball's chance of getting it granted?;)

Yes, its a good choice. The Neverland Pool is lovely.

Only the Sierra Tower has morphed into the Dreams Tower. Dahling, just keeping you abreast of the lasted re-imagineering.

Have a fabulous trip!

that sounds like a great deal. how do you find out which conventions are at the different hotels when you are visiting?

I would start with checking the convention center schedule. Though not all conventions at the Anaheim convention center will have room blocks at the DLR hotels. I was there for the state PTA convention in May of 2006, and I don't recall the DLR hotels being on the accommodations list. (I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure I would have booked a room a DLR room if I had the option.) I believe there is also a convention facility within the DLH, so perhaps they have a schedule listed somewhere.

We are actually going from the 18th - 20th for the cheer convention there and our hotel our cheer group chose was DOUBLETREE GUEST SUITES . it is $169 a night which is not bad but the same price as the PPH. we will stay at the host hotel but am thinking of moving to the on-site hotels after we are done with nationals for the night of the 20th - and checking out on the 23rd. hmmmmm delema.. what do you all think...
oh and none of the other conventions have the DL hotels listed

I just went online & checked the anaheim convention centers list of conventions & the ALA popped up! Knew it was my best bet since I had volunteered @ local library for years.

I was told most conventions use an agency to handle the room blocks booking; then hand it over to DL a few weeks ahead of time for processing.

fyi, as of this am only the DL wasn't waitlisted, not sure if it's still available to book. however, many other offsite were available. They didn't seem to be at such a dramatic discount though; noticed HoJo was same as AAA rate.

are you talking wait listed for when you are going?

Lori
yes, sorry...here's a list of conventions for mid-end of june '08 @ convention center...the numbers @ end of each group indicate the anticipated # of attendees; always a good way to judge the crowd levels
