It's only the second day of the DNC and I'm already sick of it. And just think, next month we can have 24/7 coverage of the RNC. I can only take so much of these parties blowing their own horns. Thank God for TV Land.::yes::

I guess I'm one of those rare people that actually watches a good deal of this. What can I say... I'm a political junkie!

I do confess to watching quite a bit of it last night myself.:o

If you are getting "24/7 coverage," it must be by your choice. The networks are broadcasting a total of THREE hours of convention coverage this whole week. I've been watching 3 hours a night on c-span, however.

I'm with you, jr....cannot get enough of it! I don't think my TV left C-span from 5pm onward yesterday. I just wish things started and ended earlier....I need to get to bed before most of the keynote speakers have spoken. Thank goodness for the internet, I can catch up on what I've missed! I'll be watching the RNC next month as well.

I am proud to say that I have watched 0 minutes of this.

And no, I'm not partisan. I'm not watching the Republican Convention either.

It's just self-adulation and mindless bragging -- both of which turn me off completely.

Actually, I think it's pathetic that the networks can't be bothered to show considerably MORE coverage.

But hey...why would you want an informed electorate for the most important election in decades ?

I've watched all the prime time coverage, and most of the more mundane stuff too.

I'll confess, I'm a political junkie too.

We are talking CONVENTION coverage here, wvrey.

Bunch of partisan hooey.

By the way, I will watch debates and speeches that pertain to the ELECTION. But not a constant drone of "We are better than them".

So, in the election this year, you'll be deciding between Bush and Kerry...but you'll know next to nothing ABOUT John Kerry, since you refuse to watch him unless it's a "debate" or "speech relating to the election" (though I'm not sure what would qualify for that, if the convention speeches don't).

Besides, you missed, last night, one of the most amazing speeches I've EVER seen given at an even such as this. It was truly inspiring, and laid out very well some of the differences between the democrat and republican parties. But again, you don't have the benefit of having seen that speech, because it was just a "we are better than them" kinda thing.

This is exactly how I feel!! I won't be watching the Republican convention either.
If they would just have each candidate come out and speak about what their platform is THEN I'd be willing to listen. But I get enough of the bashing each other on the stupid commercials. I don't need to see any more of the "We're so great and they're so evil" routine.

I'm not sure that watching the conventions will help make an informed electorate. People are not informed by campaign commercials since they are usually distorted marketing shtick. In the past few cycles, the conventions have become so scripted that they are nothing more that 4 day campaign commercials. DW and I will watch not one minute of either convention and dollars to dough-nuts we will not lack a single piece of relevant information about either candidate or party by missing them.

It beats "Who Wants to Marry My Dad" and "The Surreal World".

That's a matter of opinion.

Normally, I never watch the conventions but this time I am. I am really enjoying it to my surprise. I do like the message the DNC is putting out. It hits home with me.

And TLC. I'll take knocking out a wall, remodelling a house, or pasting feathers on the walls over politics any day. :p

I have enough to worry about in my "spare time" to really care anything about the president beyond his politics. I don't care how many kids he has or what religion he is or how many times he goes to church or his hobbies. I want to know what he's going to push for and vote against. That's it.
As for last night's speech outlining the differences between the parties... I took American Government in high school and college. Got it covered, thanks.

Like I said...an "uninformed electorate".

I've watched nearly every minute of the convention that I could, and I can promise you that they haven't been speaking of how many kids he has, what religion he is, or anything else about him in that way. What they have been talking about is what direction he wants to take the country in, and how he wants to do that. They've been talking about him as a leader, and if you don't think leadership is important in a president...well, then it's useless to continue this debate, regardless of how many "government" classes you slept through.

I remember in the 70's, conventions were ALL that was on the networks. 3-4 hours/night for 5-6 days.

I think the coverage today is .................. well, sparse.

They serve no REAL purpose except to "Rally the Troops" for the election to come. No decisions are made there. There are no surprises. The DNC bashes the RNC & vice versa. Kerry sucks & GWB is the anti-christ.

I HAVE watched some of the Convention, & so far, as a white, middle class, male with the corporate average 2 kids, the Democratic Party has offered me ............................ nothing.

Except a repeal of tax cuts and tax in creases.

They play to the special interests and splinter groups. The "maintream center" is being left out in the cold.

Unfortunately, I don't expect much better from the RNC.

You can still count me as one of the undecided.

And as a Florida voter that actually READS a ballot, I guess that makes me pretty special.
